  1. I struggled with the "to dye or not to dye" question for a long time, especially since I use soy and soy blends and experiencing the horrors of frosting and mottling. I dye mine, but I also keep a decent selection of noncolored. I've also found that orange is not a popular color and avoid it at all costs.

  2. I know exactly what you are talking about. I'm using C-3 and I was testing out a premier wick. I've never experienced this before but the top of mine is exactly what you are describing a greyish green color. The rest of the candle is white. I used Citrus & Teak FO from AAA Candle Supply. Don't have a clue of what caused it.

That scent turned the wax gray after burning for me too (but from JBN), love the scent but that funky color made me not want to carry it. Also Seaspray Jasmine from TSB and I think nag champa did that too.

  3. I have been having the same problem trying to wick 8 oz. tins. I am so frustrated that I could scream. Have been testing for the last 2 weeks, with not good results.

What do you think it means "instead of clear melt pook, milky wax pool?" I have this a lot with various wicks. I use 100% soy. So far I have tried RRD, HTP and CD, even tried a plain cotton wick which I tab myself. The only one that seems to be doing fairly well is the HTP 1212, but am having the milky wax pool.

I am doing a fundrasier for a school and want to use tins for safety purposes, but I'm running out of time because I can't seem to find the right wick. Any help would be appreciated.

    I'd double wick the tins
  4. It's well-natured, and they know I can be a little OC about somethings...but they really DO need to burn the candles I give them for the first time until they get a full melt pool...and they need to keep the wicks trimmed...and the tins CAN get hot so they should set them on something heat resistant.

They are like it's a candle...you light it, you burn it, you toss it when it's gone. GRRRRRRRRRR!

Am I being to compulsive with my instructions??

And then yesterday, I was talking to one of the secretaries, and she had a candle going on her desk (mass produced with very little throw) and I swear the wick was 3/4 inch long with a big, ole mushroom on the end of it. The flame was 2 inches high!!! I told her...girl, you need to trim that wick...see how that candle is smoking?? (The jar was blackened really badly.) They just laughed at me. There goes Heather on her candle soap-box again.

I really don't care. Like I said, they aren't being ugly about it. It's their candles that they are burning the best they could, and we are great friends. But does this annoy anyone else????

My friends now call me the 'WICK NAZI" , but I think I probably deserve it. ;)

  5. I have searched high and low, found only two types of boxes so far that are decent looking, Cierra Candle supply has some but they are white carboard and I really would like to at least be able to see the candles from the top, I tried stationary boxes but they were half an inch too big. Sunshine container has the clear acetate ones BUT with soy votives I'm thinking the wax will smear on the plastic and end up looking terrible.

This is turning out a lot more difficult than I thought it would be! Any suggestions on where to find some nice boxes or tips on using the boxes above appreciated. thanks

  6. Helpful Hint #1 -

ALWAYS take the time to screw the top securely back on your liquid colorant IMMEDIATELY after using it - no matter how much of a hurry you are in or how confident you feel because you have done this enough times now and you have your "routine" down.

Failure to take heed of Helpful Hint #1 could result in the distinct possibility of knocking over a full frickin' bottle of red liquid dye - having the top just placed on it and not screwed on tightly means that that same frickin' full frickin' bottle of red frickin' dye will now be all over you, your work area and everything else you can possibly imagine.

Not that this happened to me this afternoon or anything - ummmm - It is just a hint I thought of - Yeah, that's it.

    Helpful Hint #2 -

If you do accidently knock over a full bottle of red frickin' dye, rubbing alcohol will help in your attempt to remove said dye from your body

    santa roll

Why is it always red dye too!? My biggest problem is accidentally getting it on my fingers, not realizing it and opening cabinets and such, red fingerprints on my cabinets ACK! I had to rub orange FO on it for about two weeks to get all of it off.
