Issue with 464

Recommended Posts

I am very new to candle making and so thankful to have found this board. I am testing my first candle with 464. It is a 16oz mason jar with an ECO 10. After each burn when the melt pool cools it ends up being a lighter shade than the rest of the candle giving it a striped effect. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I never dyed 464 but it would do this uncolored also- always a shade lighter where the melt pool was

I am not sure of the answer other than it has to have something to do with the heat but then again 415 does not do this....maybe it's the wax itself

I have had the same issues with 464 when I used it by itself. It was my understanding this is a characteristic of 464. You will see a frosted line appear usually around the discolored part of the wax as well. I would get excited when I poured my candles and they had no aesthetic issues - but then after burning them, and cooling - they always had a discoloration where the melt pool was. And the a lot of times (most) the frosted white line would appear with it.

It's polymorphic and it part of 464's "charm."  None of my customers have ever said anything about it being undesirable to them, and they continue to purchase.  Scent and throw are what they are most interested in, and they sell equally well colored or not.
