From your experience, how long after they’re made do reed diffusers start losing their potency? Meaning with the lid on the bottles, untouched. Same question for aroma bead sachets. How about if they’re kept in a closed baggie?
  2. My apologies if this has already been asked. Has anyone tried the Candle Makers Store's reed sticks? They're a great price but they have no reviews, so I'm hesitant to order. Thanks!
  3. A while back, I remember someone posted a great article about soy wax and paraffin wax, maybe other waxes as well. I can't seem to find it. It was pretty lengthy, lots of results, comparisons, etc. I know that's a vague description but I'm hoping someone out there knows what I'm talking about. Thanks so much!
  4. I picked up a Better Homes (edit: or was it Mainstays?) candle a few years ago (before I started making candles) to put on the Thanksgiving table. Great CT, absolutely ZERO HT. The price told me to buy it the first time. The non-existent throw told me to never do so again lol!
  5. All very interesting points, everyone. Thanks for your two cents
  6. Just curious of everyone's opinion. What size/style candle do you think customers prefer? I ask because while I use 8 oz jj, I used to play around with the 4 oz size for fun. My aunt is always asking me if I have any of those left. She says she likes smaller candles because she gets sick of the same scent quickly.. but come on, 8 oz is NOT large. Personally I think she just likes the lower price points. With that said, which type of candle do prefer and have success selling: simple, smaller candles in jelly jars/salsa jars/hex jars because they're affordable, or larger, more expensive candles in apothecary jars/status jars/etc because they look so elegant and classy? I'd love to hear anyone's opinion!
  7. I wait 2 weeks. But I've lit some after 2 months or more of curing and WOW they're strong. I don't know at what point any extra curing becomes pointless, but it generally feels like the longer the wait, the better the throw. for me at least.
  8. I agree with barbaranj. For the mushroom labels, I'd make the scent name the same color as the border. If you're set on green, make the border green too. But I'd personally go with red for both. Between the white christmas choices, I'd pick #3. It just seems more Christmasy AND wintery to me. #4 just looks wintery. (That was probably such a dumb reason, lol.) I'd still use them both, though! I had to ditch 2, I'd go with #5 and #8. Just a little too basic compared to the rest. Great work!!
  9. I just got some from the flaming candle company.
  10. I have the exact fryer justajesuchick posted. I got mine for $40 brand new in the box off a guy on craigslist. I'm still new to the game but seriously I could I pass that up?
  11. I just made a thread about my trouble with the CD wick. I use 464 and I'm not a fan at all. They curl WAY too much.
  12. Thanks, OldGlory. I was on a roll for a while but now I feel like I'm back to square one. So frustrating! But I guess that's all part of the game.
  13. I did notice that the only supplier to have CSNs was CS. Thanks again, and sorry for all the (probably) dumb questions!
  14. Also, what difference is there between a CSN and CDN wick?
  15. Thank you both! Very helpful. Looks like I'll just have to sample a bunch and test, test, test
  16. Hello everyone! I've been using 464, 6% FO, and CD wicks in 8 oz jelly jars. Everything is fine: good throw, etc. The only problem I'm having is the curling of the wicks! I know they're supposed to curl, but it just seems like they're curling TOO much. I've snooped on some of the candles I've made for friends and family, and everyone is neglecting the wick! No matter how much I inform them, they ignore the wick and it droops all the way back into the wax. I suspect many non-candle makers do the same. My question is, should I switch over to wicks that will stay upright? If so, what kind? I've been looking everywhere but I just don't know where to begin! I'd love to hear anyone's input, what they've used, how it's worked out, etc. Thanks!
  17. Happens to me, too. Doesn't really bother me though.
  18. Thanks so much everyone! I currently make clamshells but they're not my favorite. I'm not sure why.. Ellipso melts are just so cute too me, I really want to start making them. Hearing that the newer presto pots may not be that big, i'm starting to double think buying one. I found the exact turkey fryer on craigslist that someone posted on here. I'm so tempted to get it because i'm sick of making all these dinky batches. But the darn thing is so big i'm almost too intimidated!
  19. Just got back from my first show today! I was originally going to set up a table at a family member's animal rescue event, but last minute I ended up at another family member's Earth Day event instead. (Made more sense; I glorified soy wax to the fullest extent haha.) I quickly realized that the crowd was more of the "I'll take every free pamphlet I see" type rather than the "this cash is burning a hole in my pocket" type. Still, very nice people and I actually did a lot better than I expected- especially for something so last minute ANYWAY, I have another (much larger) event coming up, and I need a presto pot! I've heard that they hold about 8 pounds of wax. Does that sound about right? Also, does anyone use the 1 ounce ellipso cups? Do they hold EXACTLY 1 ounce of wax, or a little less? Sorry for all my annoying questions! You guys are the best!
  20. An Ellyn replied by morning. Unfortunately their FO's aren't phthalate free, in case anyone was wondering.
  21. I like the color scheme! Very informative but not cluttered!
  22. Are candlewic's fragrances phthalate free? I don't see anything about it on the site. I emailed them but I figured I'd ask you guys as well since you never fail me and I'm so impatient haha. Thanks!
