jjcall1981
Hello,I am new to the boards. I am trying to formulate a massage lotion that has enough slip and does not absorb too fast. I have used canola, sunflower, and grapeseed oils but the result is too watery. Is there a special ratio of ingredients to massage lotion? I would love any advice or tips.Jessica
Red
Hmmm...I would think to maybe add a little butter to the oils to thicken it up a tad? I make a massage OIL but it is basically SAO and soy oil..I also make a fancy one with some rose petals, calendula, herbs, etc emersed in the oil..makes the bottle look oh so pretty

LuminousBoutique
I'm a massage therapist... generally we dont actually use lotion for massages, but when I do I use this recipe:28 grams Stearic44 grams Ewax18 grams Jojoba30 grams grapeseed95 grams sweet almond oil20 grams cocoa butter (you could use mango or shea)1648 grams distilled waterPreservative (this is water heavy so make sure its a good one. It took two tries for me in testing to get this properly preserved.)it makes roughly 80 oz. I make it this large at a time because I keep it in gallon jugs with a pump... you could easily cut this recipe down quite a bit.

Also, I'm working on a sore muscle massage oil in your opinion would sunflower by itself work good for this. I'm trying to stay from the nut oils due to allergies. Starr
If you're doing a sore muscle something, some Arnica might be helpful, it's supposed to be a natural pain reliever.
