Container Shopping...What Do The Ounces Mean?

Recommended Posts

Good evening all.

I'm shopping online for various jars I might like to use and I don't know how to estimate the volume they'll hold.

I'm trying to find a fairly straight sided cylinder or bowl that will hold 1 lb. of paraffin with a 1/2 to 1 inch head room. I know that's approximately 20 oz. volume melted.

When the manufacturer or supplier says 22 oz., let's say, does that generally mean 22 oz. to overflow or to natural fill line?

CS will tell you this for most of their jars but no one else I've come across does.

(But then, I don't understand why different jars they have listed as having the same oz. have different overflow amounts stated.)

Thanks in advance.
