hewitt1995 Posted July 31, 2009 Share Posted July 31, 2009 ok, re-lit the candle I had previously burned too early :embarasse Good News!! the burn pool, or melt pool was perfect!! wick re-lit and burned beautiful. Put the candle in the bathroom, (smallest room in the house) my son said he could smell a little something....so maybe if I wait longer and test burn again, the scent will be better, or perhaps just not a strong scent.Thanks again for all the helpmindy:wink2: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mindy, what do you consider a "perfect" melt pool?Testing candles is done by burning a candle for about 1 hour per inch of diameter. Achieving a full melt pool on the first or second burn is not meaningful. It is more usual for it to take 2-3 burn sessions of X# of hours per inch of diameter for soy & palm waxes. Parasoy blends may be different because of the addition of the paraffin... scentlady Posted July 31, 2009 Share Posted July 31, 2009 Sometimes you don't get a full meltpool on the first burn so there will be hangup on the sides of the jar. It may not catch up until the second or third burn. Other times it may burn fine at first and then halfway through the jar will drown out. So you have to do enough burns to completely burn the candle and watch what happens. You have to burn your candle in an ordinary size room because that is what your customers will do. It's the only way to get good results. Also keep good written notes so you'll remember what you did and what worked. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Meridith Posted July 31, 2009 Share Posted July 31, 2009 Getting a full mp with soy on the first burn does not mean that your candle is wicked wrong either. You have to keep burning to tell if it is or not. A candle that appears to burn great initially, can change in subsequent burns. Also, remember that while soy does tend to burn down then out, but that burning quality can be more present with self trimming wicks due to their bending nature.
