joanncat18
Ok, I made a light box and here is my first attempt at candle photography. I don't think I have the lighting quite right, but if anyone has any thoughts I would like to hear them.
OverSoyed
Not bad, but I would turn off the date stamp on your camera.
joanncat18
Lol, yeah I realized that was on after. Since this is practice I am not too worried. But will turn it off for the next one.
OverSoyed
I prefer using black background for my photos, as I do a lot of photoshop work afterward for ads and so on. It is so much easier to remove after the fact than white. I also find that white rarely comes out as true white unless you have a great camera, and good lighting. joanncat18
Yeah, I have no idea where to start with photo editing. Is there any sort of tutorial online or something?
OverSoyed
Do you have Photoshop? There are a lot of online tutorial sites. Just google Photoshop editing or something like that.
joanncat18
I got pain.net, it's a free type program that does a lot of the same things as photoshop.
shantillescandlecreation
I use Photo Explosion. I love it, there's so much you can do with it.
joanncat18
Ok, after trying some editing. I am no good at this \I was able to get a lot of that pink color out, what do you think> compared to the previous one.
OverSoyed
You're getting there. As a thumbnail, it looks perfectly fine, but the larger version you can tell were you edited. I'm telling ya... try a black background. If you want to change it to white after you take the photo, it is much easier to edit.
OverSoyed
Just something I did really quick... after all it's 5am! :lipsrseal
Lizzy
It's actually not that hard to do with the right program - I did it in less than 10 mins in Pain Shop Pro Hope you don't mind - just wanted to show you
joanncat18
Yeah when I was editing that pic I was thinking how it would be easier with a black background...I will try that. Thanks.
joanncat18
Hey thanks for the examples. I don't want to spend a lot on an editing program. I think my program will work, I just have to figure it out. I am dense when it comes to hues and saturations and such. Lol.
Firefly
OverSoyed,What do you use as a black background? Material etc. I'm curious about this too.
OverSoyed
Personally, I use black leather desk blotters I got from American Express. But in the past I've used regular black poster board. Sheets of foam core work very well also. I do suggest using matte finishes rather than glossy, as lighting and glare from the shiny sides can create headaches. Regardless of what materials you use, Photoshop or similar tools are a must. As a graphic designer, I couldn't live without them.OverSoyed,What do you use as a black background? OverSoyed
There are pics of my newest soaps in the B&B gallery for examples of how the black works out when photographing. As I said before, once you have a good background image, you can change the colors to whatever you like, ie. to suit your website color scheme. If anyone needs graphic help, feel free to message me. OverSoyed
Not sure what you used, but it looks brown to me. But I think it looks so much better than the first try. WTG!
joanncat18
It is the blackest poster board I could get, but yeah when photographed it is looking quite brown.
jenscandles
You might try the science fair type folding poster boards with some inexpensive black fabric draped over it. For that matter anything you can attach the fabric to. That's what I do and I get some nice results. I have a little extra to that I use to cover small boxes and such when I need risers. It reminds me of a party setting I once saw, with a bright pink table cloth and dyed blue flowers. What is the scent?
