nanny Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I have had several batches of candles that are sinking around the wick, some are the size of a nickle. It does not happen with every batch. I use GB415 and have had this happen now out of 2 boxes. What causes this to happen? Can I use my heat gun to heat the top to fill it in? I have never had this to happen in the 3 years I have been making candles. I would appreciate any help. Thanks Quote
nanny Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 I should have added, not all the candles in the same batch have this sinking. Quote
I love candles Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 When this happens to me, I use my heat gun to zap the tops and then they are usually fine! Quote
nanny Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 I am burning one now to see what happens. I was afraid they would tunnel right down the middle. Have you ever done a repour to fill it in? Quote
Firefly Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 This happened to me with one batch and I have no idea why but I always use my heat gun to fix any uneven tops and don't ever do repours. Quote
Stella1952 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Searching the forums would have yielded MANY replies to this common problem. It is caused when the candle is cooling unevenly. It can be corrected by cooling more slowly and evenly (under a box or enclosure), using a heat gun, remelting the batch in the oven, remelting the tops only in the oven, etc. Good luck. Quote
nanny Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Thank you all for your help. The only thing that changed was I have a new air purifier. It does move the air alot, maybe that was my problem. Thanks again. Quote
