Fresh Cranberries in CP?

Hi everyone! Just wondering - has anyone here used fresh cranberries in CP? Seems I've seen pics of some soaps somewhere that claim to contain "real cranberries". I was given 4 bags of cranberries and much prefer the idea of making soap over cranberry sauce (How bad is that!) so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Thanks, Robin! Somehow I knew I could count on you to steer me in the right direction. :yay: I'm going to try adding some to my lye water (don't know how stupid that might be but . . . I'm a risk taker, what can I say! ) and then I thought I'd maybe add a little at trace. I'll definitely post my results. Thanks again.

I may be wrong on this, but I would think that adding them to the lye water would really hydrate them and cause them to mold faster. I tend to think it would be better to add them at trace. Just my thoughts though and I'm not as experience as Robin and some of the others.

I am the one that posted a pic of Cranberry & Sugar soap. I used dried cranberries. It turned out good. Week number three and no problems with the fruit in it. As Robin said I did not use a whole bunch.

I added at trace. I think that if you add them to the lye water then it might get ugly! :tongue2: When I was a newbie I tried to add chopped strawberries.... yuck! I added it to the lye water. It was the most rancid thing I have ever seen.

Have fun!

No results yet - I got side-tracked by a box full of Green Tea Seed Oil that my hubby picked up at Big Lots on his way home from work. Probably a good thing because now I see how bad things might have turned out if I had added cranberries to the lye. (DUH! What was I thinking?) I'm getting ready to give it go now, though, and will post the results. Thanks for all the great input! Don't know what I'd do without this board's members and the great advise:)!

I'm wishing I wouldn't have said I'd post results now. The past 2 days of soaping have not been good ones and yesterday's experiment with the cranberries was the absolute worst experience with soap making I've had so far. My first mistake (I think) was using lye water that was 1/2 coconut milk and 1/2 distilled water made up from the day before. As soon as this hit my oils I had a big glob of un-stirrable mess. Once the panic subsided, I glopped it all into the pan and headed to the house where the computer is set up. On the way in, I tripped over the hose, recovered, hit the top step of the porch and tripped over one cat, managed to recover enough to step on the other cat causing her to run between my legs. Finally got into the house, put the pan on the stove on warm and got the idea to bring up the HP tutorial. I scanned through the tutorial and *thought* I knew what I was doing. (Not a clue!) When everything was all smooth and thick, I added the cranberry puree and some orange EO, stirred it in and was so pleased by the beautiful color of soap being poured into the mold. As I finished scraping the last of the mix out, the stuff in the mold was separating right before my eyes and I now had a mold full of oily-applesauce looking stuff. So I poured it all back into the pan, went back for another quick scan of the tutorial and cooked it some more. It all went back together nicely but the beautiful pink color is now butt-ugly brown. Now, I was determined that I hated HP after that scary episode but as I filled my pan up with hot water, I had the biggest bubble explosion I've ever seen so now I'm thinking I might have to take the time to really REALLY read the tutorial, get a firm grasp on what it's telling me to do and try it again. No cranberries this time, though. Sorry this is so long when all I really wanted to say was I don't care for the fresh cranberries in CP soap. Thanks for all the input! :embarasse

You poor thing, it seems you started chain reaction-story of my life!! LOL

I'm glad you and the kitties are ok, and that even though the soap isn't exactly what you were hoping for that you got it all mixed and put to bed so it wasn't a complete waste of product and time.

I don't think I should have read this post right before I'm getting ready to take the soap plunge myself though. LOL
