cybersix
Hi, last night I used 3/4 firestarters I have made to start fire in fireplace.. but I can see where they were, they leave tracks of their presence.. in my fireplace now there are spot of wax.. I mean not much, it's just a darker spot on the fireplace surface and if I touch it my finger lightly stick..How come this? Aren't they supposed to burn completely?A lady wants a pack of those but if fireplace becomes "dirty" I don't think I'll give her.. am I missing something?TIA
lindsaycb
I'm wondering if it was mostly wax versus cones/wood chips...
Sharon in KY
Did you just lay them on the bottom of your fireplace? I have put mine in between the wood logs and they burn while the wax runs all over the logs. I always thought they burned up completely before wax would run to the bottom of the fireplace. Maybe wrong..
cybersix
Lindsay: you are saying I used too much wax? I already thought about it.. maybe it' s this the reason, I made 'em with wax and pot-pourri in a paper cup. I'll try to use less wax. Thank you
cybersix
Sharon, some of them were on the bottom, other between logs, but even those leaved wax.. wax was dripping down.. not a large amount, but a little bit just to leave a spot!Thank you
geekrunner
I have made firestarters with wood chips in a muffin pan, with paraffin poured in. When I tested one, I set it on bare concrete, and lit it. It worked just fine, but it did stain the concrete. It might help to use paper muffin liners or a paper plate under the firestarter. lindsaycb
I think it will stain really anyway, especially if the wax is colored? Just my thought.I stick with just dipped pinecones for the fireplace. But now the muffin starters, they're great for campires or barrel stoves
CandleFreak
I only use 1 firestarter at a time don't really need multiples if the wood is seasoned...i do have a metal grate in the fireplace but i usually put a small square of cardboard under my firestarter - usually a cut up pizza box or cereal boxfor my firestarters I use paper muffin cups in pan, wax, and large wood shavings
cybersix
thanks to all, I'll try putting something under the firestarters. My house is really humid and wood seems to be affected by this. so fire takes a little bit to start, that's way I used more than one of them.I'll try all of your advice! Thanks! geekrunner
But now the muffin starters, they're great for campires or barrel stovesMost definitely! We went camping last month, and I used some of my firestarters. Had a roaring fire going in less than 10 minutes!
