trisha
I just poured some jj with hot apple pie. Smelled great until I lit one for test burn. It smells like apple pie, but puts off a kind of fuel smell. Almost like lantern oil or something. Is this normal?
Gypsyjen
Trisha,You might be burning the candle too soon after pour. Give the candle some more time to cure, and it will probably mellow the FO.
trisha
OK thanks I'll try that. What if it a cheap FO. Could that cause it?
Gypsyjen
Absolutely. I've been paying close attention to other's comments on this board about FO suppliers and who's good and who's not. From my research, I've concluded that the best candle FO suppliers are:Peak's www.peakcandle.comJust Scent www.justscent.comFragrance Oil Heaven www.fragranceoilheaven.com There are many other great suppliers, but these are the most popular.Good Luck! TxSioux
You should have someone else test that candle for you. Don't tell them you think it smells funky, wait for their review. The simply explaination is that we all have different receptors in our 'sniffers' & we all pick out different high & low notes to a scent. Just cause you pick out certain notes doesn't mean others will. I personally hate any fo that smells like a cleaning product, but have found others don't pick up the harsh smell that I notice.Susan. shafferbuns
I think I read on a post here that someone adds just a touch of vanillato one of her fo's that has a fuely smell and it takes it away.

I was thinking about remelting and adding a touch of cinnamon, but I think Susan is right. I'm just a little too critical of my own product sometimes. My neighbor came in and said it smelled great. You can smell it all through the house.
sockmonkey
hmmmmm. I bought oil based fragrance from craftlobby once and it REEKED of a fuel smell right in the bottle. I never used it.
