harp4
Hi, my soy wax candles look great in the jar, but the top looks all wrinkly and flaky (light colored dark etc.)is that waht you use a heat gun for?
SoycialGirl
Hmmm...... I've never had discolored wax, but soy does have mottling problems, probably the wrinkling you're mentioning. It helps if you pour at a low temp (100-105) and really slow. Sometimes it's just as easy to hit it w/a heat gun, though if you don't have time to get the temp down that far.HTH - Paige
harp4
that sounds right! (i say discolor but it's just the crackling that some of the wax loks white and then the color as well on top. i've been pouring at 155 degrees.. sounds like the heat gun will fix it thanks for the tip!harp
SoycialGirl
Hey Harp,155 is really high to pour and that's certainly why your tops are mottling. When I say I pour at a higher temp, it's usually around 120-125. But if everything else checks out, I wouldn't worry - enjoy the good results and the blessings of a heat gun. PaigeNot all soys are poured cool. She's probably got a wax that requires higher pour temps.Sounds like you have some frosting on the tops. You can see what using a heat gun will do, but it will quite possibly come back. If the top is not smooth, a heat gun will remelt the surface and even it out a bit.
