Couple of photographic suggestions ... okay, 3.

1. Get a background, colored paper, piece of cloth, something on the dark side if possible (or at least start there as an experiment & see how you like the resulting image.

2. I think you may be physically too close to your candle. One or two steps back might be enough to get it in focus.

3. To reduce glare from your flash, set the candle at a slight angle. Instead of having that flat service perpendicular to your lens, turn it so that the corner edge is more forward. Hope that makes sense.

If you have any photo editing software, you can crop out most of the background. That way you'll have more pixals dedicated to your candle, meaning you can make the candle larger in your image, & we can see the detail of your crackle better to make suggestions.
