Vicky_CO
What does you first burn look like? It kind of sounds like you are burning off your FO to fast. Try wicking down if you can or change your wicks to a cooler burning wick.
notjustbaskets
I get a good melt pool and it takes about two hours on a 2.5 in jar i am using lx16 but doubled, is that the problem? that it is doubled? what lx or what other wick do you suggest? R.S.
ok, I'm not an expert and very interested in this thread because I've thought that about some of my candles sometime. But for the size you're talking about 2 LX 16s seems a lot if you're talking Soy. If it's Palm, I'm not sure if that's a lot or not. What wax are you using? I'm using CDs with CB135 and no longer having that issue.
Stella1952
According to this wick recommendation chart from WickIt, a single LX 16 is rated for 1-2" Containers, 2-3" Pillars and 2-3" Containers! I think it might be safe to say that whether you are burning soy or palm, TWO LX 16s are more than you should need for that size container! what lx or what other wick do you suggest? If you go to the link posted above, they have general recommendations for TONS of wicks... Vicky_CO
2.5 inch jar unless it is a very to hard wick FO should not need a double wick in my opinion anything smaller than 3" should never be double wicked.
notjustbaskets
On the candle science site it said lx 16 but when I tested it it was way too small. Back to the sample packs I guess.

notjustbaskets
oh oopsie. I tried one with cb135 and one with gb415. But I am now testing with different wicks. we will see what it does.
Judy, USMC
Try one with an LX-21. Thats how far I had to go up with the CB-135. But then I had a black throw from the wick wax - it's paraffin based I believe. More & more I've been reading about good results with the RRD, HTP and CD's. Stella1952
On the candle science site it said lx 16That's why I threw you that wonderful link from WIckit - according to it, there are 6 sizes of LX for the 2-3" container range... Since your LX 16 is toward the low end of the recommended wicks and Judy reported having to go up to an LX 21, toward the high end - that should give you a little more confidence that the right one for you is somewhere around the higher end of the scale. If you scroll up and down that page, they have LOADS of other wicks too. A nice table won't solve all your wicking problems, but it sure can be helpful when things are going wrong or you don't know where to begin! notjustbaskets
yeah cool guys thanks. I just went back to my good ol' 80c and it brought back the scent, plus great melt pool and it took about 2.5 hrs. BUT not all suppliers carry those so I think I might change to the htp's.
