hawaiiansun
Ok I"ve been reading about preservatives in water. I've been testing room/body sprays with the following distilled water, polysorbate20, and fo and also distilled water, witch hazel and fo do I need a preservative in this because of the water? and if so what's a good one that i don't have to heat up what about some cosmetic alcohol? TIA for any help oh by the way it smells great

Melissa
I use a preservative in my water based linen sprays. I'm really paranoid about things growing. I use liquid germall plus in mine.

erikatx
my answer is just as useless as not asnwering since I do not have a definite answer.I have read were people add preservatives, also that you don't need any when you use so much alcohol... but I don't know how much that would be... so sorry. RobinInOR
15%-20% alcohol by weight is self preserving. You'd have to do the math - find out what proof your alcohol is and multiply it out, since you're not using 100% alcohol.
Michi
Am I missing something or what? Cuz I don't see where she's using ANY alcohol in her spray??? I would put the preservative in it-just in case, better safe than sorry KWIM?
hawaiiansun
There is no alcohol but I did order the liquid germall plus. I have the base with alcohol in it, and I'm going to order cyclo, but it's so much cheaper with water and my testers smell just as good. With the preservative I'll know it's safe. Thanks guys :highfive:
RobinInOR
She's not, but erika said something about self preserving but didn't know the %, so I thought I'd just add it to the thread.
Michi
Ok Robin, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missin' something in reading her post. Seriously, this happens to me all the time lately-I guess it's from having soooo much going on at one time in my life now that I've added making candles and B&B to my already chaotic days.
