CareBear
Macadamia wax (Macwax) Extracted from macadamia nuts, macadamia wax is the perfect alternative to beeswax for vegans. Due to its higher "binding strength", macwax is used at half the ratio of beeswax and represents a cheaper alternative for all. Supplied in easy to handle "chips" weighing 2 to 6 grams each.anyone know anything about this?
bravo5
Haven't heard of it- but VERY interested!!! I have been going back and forth with adding lip balm because of the beeswax issue. I haven't been happy with no-beeswax recipes I've tried- too soft.I have seen macadamia nut oil, but not wax. Did you find a supplier that carries it? CareBear
http://www.annelees.com/supplies/macwax.htmlHaven't every heard of this supplier before so don't know anything about it. Seems to be primarily an Australian product.
bravo5
Interesting! Cool, thanks for the link. I might have to try some! Were you thinking of trying it for something specific?
CareBear
actually I just happened across it - have no idea. But if it's like beeswax but less sticky I'd be thrilled to give it a try in my solid lotion bars. I know vegans would be thrilled.
Crystala25
Another alternative to the beeswax in lip balms is rice bran wax. It works really well. I haven't heard of the Macadamia wax before. If someone tries it, I would love to know how it works.
CareBear
That supplier no longer carries it and didn't have any suggestions. I think we'd have to import it from Australia... Perhaps Rice Bran Wax...
Meridith
OIls by Nature now sells Apricot wax. This one has had me intrigued for sure.
CareBear
oooooooh we need to research... I like the idea of a BW alternative (and I hate carnuba for some reason), but wasn't keen on the nut-aspect (we have nut allergies in our household so I'm sensitive to the issue). The citrus waxes can be photo-sensitizing - but apricot sounds interesting...
