Well it ain't pretty, but i am proud of it. It soaps up nice, and fells soooo soft. Can't wait to make more. Will the bars eventually look softer on the out sides of the bars, ore is there something that needs to be done differently next time. Also the color is alittle ash, what can i do to prevent this again? Feel free to critique. I hope u do!!!!! Want to get this right!!!:D

Thanks Lisa

I think they are lovely - they have a kinda rustic look. If you like the soap when it's fresh you will LOVE IT when it's cured 2 weeks - it gets more mellow and lathers better!

You can clean up your bars if you want smoother edges. Some use a veggie peeler on the edges to bevel, some "polish" by dunking in water or spraying with alcohol and buffing with a soft towel. There are lots of techniques. I even plane the sides of mine. If you want to try that, Kangaroo Blue has a lovely tool that bevels and planes. I'm big on "the right tool for the right job" but don't spend too much money all at once!

Ash is a fact of life. Sometimes it is caused by a particular FO, some recipes are more likely to get it. Some say it's caused by "peeking" at your covered soaps during gel, others say that's not the case. We haven't figured it out yet - so cannot reliably prevent it, unfortunately. Luckily it can add depth and character to some swirls, so you can either live with it or shave/plane it off...

As an aside, the tools i bought that were great investments are my 16 bar Misty Creek mold (my personal favorite), my Kangaroo Blue planer, and my Braun stick blender. Just about anything else was relatively unnecessary.
