kayearthgrown
I made a 2 pd. batch of soap using the mango and shea recipe on PVSOAP it turned out great. It has cured for about 6 weeks, gave a bar to a friend to test for me and the soap is getting cracks in it and is still soft in the middle. Does this mean it needs to cure longer? The bars I used were fine. I have only made about 4 batches so I am still a newbie and need some help, please. TIA
Carriegsxr6
You may have used too high percentage of Mango Butter. I think Mango is more brittle than Shea and can cause cracks. Try making another batch with less Mango butter, or maybe try a higher superfat percentage, say 7%. A higher superfat percentage will make a softer soap, it just seems that your soap is too hard so it is cracking. Its still soft in the middle because it hasnt dried 100%, in about another 6 weeks it will probably crack even more.
