Everito Bandito Posted September 26, 2006 Share Posted September 26, 2006 I use wick pins for my pillars. That makes it easy to swap wicks out. I think that using wick pins may be easier when making the candles as well. Peaks has a good price on them. Try one sometime, maybe you'll like it. firstlady Posted September 26, 2006 Author Share Posted September 26, 2006 the top of my pillar is no longer smooth, where i had a wick burning,it didn't get a full melt pool, so i know i need to go up a wick size, on container candles the top is smoothed by useing a heat gun. my question was do i need to make the pillar top smooth some how also before i rewick ? i pulled the wick out already from bottom, that i was testing and can put a wick back in it, just didn't know about the top not being smooth now, does that make sense:rolleyes2 thanks Bandito.. hope im not confuseing you more LOL! Maybe others will chime in with a better way. I suppose you could melt it back flat, like melting to level a pillar. That might be safer. CC on Maui Posted September 27, 2006 Share Posted September 27, 2006 I would do the same to smooth the top that I do for the bottoms of my pillars -- use an iron. Simply turn it on low, and hold your candle over a wastebasket while you 'iron' it. Of course -- this would require an iron that is dedicated to the candle Gods.
