jack be nimble
I have been using Cargill's Nature Wax C-3,when the wick flickers I can see small amounts of black smoke. Is this normal?I dont see smoke while it's a steady flame, only when it flickers.I however don't have black marks on the jar.Sort of confused....:undecided
geekrunner
Great handle! Yes that is normal for any wax you burn. Something about when the flame flickers, it alters the amount of air the flame uses to burn, and when there is too much or not enough, then there is incomplete combustion and you see the smoke. geek
jack be nimble
Thanks GR! Your answer is very comforting.I was really beginning to think I was doing this ALL wrong.
Sab
I've been concerned about this as well. I have been testing JSB 50/50 in 8oz Apothecary Jars with Eco 14's and 12's. If I don't keep the wick trimmed to 1/8 inch the wick/flame smokes. I'm concerned that people who eventually buy my candles will not keep them trimmed properly so I did a test batch with RRD wicks yesterday - going to burn today and hope it doesn't happen again.Other than that problem, I love the JBB 50/50. jack be nimble
I am using Eco # 14 #12 #10 #8 as well. It's only happening when Im using the #14 but the #12 doesn't get the pool Im looking for.Going to try LX I think.
Candle Makin Momma
My flame will flicker when it's in a draft, then there is a little smoke.I have one candle in my bathroom that I am testing like a novice might burn it. NOt trimming it at all. Not even the mushroom. THe jar definitely has a bit of black on it, but nothing like on other candles I've burned.
