candlesprite7
Generally use 1oz per pound of wax...
Candle Man
1oz per LB is the norm but there are other things to consider. What % does the manufacture say the wax can hold? Are you using quality scents? If so then you may can use only 1/2oz - 1oz per LB to get a good throw. Is the scent a quality but light scent, then you would have to use the max % the wax will hold. Also I have read on waxes like the new GL 70/30 if you add to much FO you will not get a strong throw. And if you use a good quality FO @ 1oz per LB and you don't get a good throw, could mean that scent doesn't work well in that wax, you need to add a higher % of FO or you need to use a different size wick. smart tart
Welcome! It would be really helpful for you to read the "newbie tips' at the top of the category! There is so much information that would be really helpful for you as a new chandler. Also, when you have extra time, read all the back posts as they have a wealth of information available also. Most folks use anywhere from .5 oz to 1.5 oz depending upon their wax, any additives, and how strong (or not) they want their candle....Using too much fragrance is not always good - wax can only absorb so much - think of wax like a sponge. Another helpful hint - stir, stir, stir Make sure you stir the fo in really well - some are 'heavier' than others and are more difficult to incorporate into your wax. You will find your fragrance at the bottom of your pour pot if you don't stir it well enough.Debbie
Crafty1_AJ
Yup, check the manufacturer's directions for scent load, which means the capacity the wax has for adding scent. You also might want to check for the wax manufacturer's recommended temperature instructions as well. Happy candlemaking!
