Looking for a wax type...please help!

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a wax that i can use for containers, and also releases for votives. Does not matter if it's a one pour. My current supplier(s) are out of my reg. wax, and it will be at least a month before it's in stock again :( I'm in Canada-and looks like I will have to buy from the US, so i am not familiar with the #'s of the waxes. I'll have to do re-tests now too! :(

A mottling wax is prefered, but I will take what i can get right now!

Also-for you J user's. For the one pour wax- after it's set in the jar-what does it 'feel' like. I have seen a one pour wax-but I can stick my fingers in it when it's set-and it's sticky. I want a one pour that is harder to the touch-so people can't damage the finished candles.

It should be easy to suggest an alternative if you tell us what you use and what you make with it.

If your wax normally mottles then it's presumably straight paraffin and many paraffins in the vicinity of 130MP would fit the bill. There are also preblends that would be suitable for both uses.

http://www.candlewic.com would be a good place to find a handful of products that are in the ballpark of what you need (assuming they will ship to Canada).

Yes I tried them both Saltbox-both are out.

I want to make containers and votives. My reg wax is IGI 1286, a preblend container/votive with a mp of 134. It's a mottling wax, with a fragrance hold of 6%. It releases well for votives, and burns well in containers.

So really-I need container wax with will release for votives as well. I have 2 150 melters, and this is the "universal" wax that goes into them.

I usually order direct from IGI by the pallet. They are out AGAIN until April. I am thinking of switching suppliers totally, since this seems to be a regular thing here in Canada with IGI.

Sherri gave you some Canadian sources, so that should be your best bet. I just want to add that you can use 1288 if you can't get 1286. They're the same wax but 1288 doesn't have the mottling oil added to it. Even though they're both rated for the same amount of FO, I think for practical purposes the 1288 is going to bleed less and it's a mottling blend.

Thanks! web addy for Voyager? never heard of them...

I did talk to someone today about the 1288--and they were out of stock. Where else can I get 1288?

Does someone have the link for the suppliers by states? I would be able to pick up if I can get it in MI. Or if I can get in in Ohio that would be cheaper for freight. New York too.

Will the J-50 release from a votive mold?

I believe http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com sells both 1286 and 1288. http://www.candlescience.com is a good supplier for 1288 and http://www.candlesandsupplies.com has it too.

Here's a suppliers by state list. http://www.candleandsoapstuff.com/Suppliers_by_State.html

I would switch to the 1288 if I were you. 1286 will mottle without FO but if you're adding fragrance then you don't need it.

J-50 wouldn't be good for molded candles.
