kinman
When using jelly jars with regular paraffin, there is a problem with deep wells before the repour. They always look uneven (granted we are only beginners at this). Are soy candles easier to make in jelly jars? How does one minimize the uneven texture? Also when using a metal mold, the bottom side is always really smooth. Is that supposed to be used as right-side up? It looks lots better than the other side which has undergone repours and looks uneven? This may be a stupid question, but we are making our first candles this weekend. topofmurrayhill
Yes the metal mold makes the candle upside down. Top is at the bottom of the mold. There's nothing that soy is really better at. You just use it if you want to use vegetable wax. It doesn't shrink much, so you should be able to get a flat top in your jars. The same is true of paraffin one-pour container blends (sounds like maybe you're using straight paraffin in the jars). I guess it's handy that you don't have to warm the jars when you pour soy.
