Cube Jars- Need wick help please

Recommended Posts

I am using 14oz cube jars ( approximately 3.5"x 3.5" ). I use igi6006 wax. I have issues with wicking properly because of the shape of jars. I use eco-10 now, one doesn't reach all corners of jar. I have been double-wicking with eco-10, works great but the jars get VERY black. So, I tried double eco-6 that was suggested, two of the corners remain waxed and still blackened jars. I want to switch to a single wick for the jar. Does anyone know if Eco-14 or Eco-16 would fix this? Wondering if anyone has the wick pool diameter for these wick sizes. Thanks.

IMO 2 eco 6 is too large a wick to use in 6006 wax. I can't seem to get it to burn right with a single wick in those jars.

I have poured in the square jars from Dollar Tree and will usually use 2 eco 2 and sometimes 2 44-24-18 zinc and have no problems.

How do you place the wicks...diagonally or side by side in the center? Dont understand how i wasnt able to get a full melt pool with two 6s yet it works with 2s for you. What formula do you use in candles? I use the dollar tree jars, 12oz igi6006 wax, and 1/2oz oil. Surely that cant be too much oil causing the soot, right? I dont want to jeopardize the scent throw yet dont like the black build up! I did notice my customers arent trimming wicks properly... if at all so that does play a role in the soot im sure. i just hate being stuck with wicks i cant use and business is so rapid i feels like i domt have a bunch of time to test. Bad, i know but shipping time for new wicks over and over is killing me. I just may end up having to switch jars next jar order.

I place them side by side in the center using wick stickers to keep them in place. A scewer(sp?) at the top with the wicks held tightly to them so the wicks stay even and in place.

6006 wax with 1.5oz fo per pound of wax. Some people use 1oz fo per pound but I find 1.5 works best for me.

44-24-18 zinc works well also and they stay in place better because of the wire in them. Or 44-28-18(I got from NG)

I get eco wicks from Candlescience. They sell sample packs for .99 each. Many suppliers sell sample packs of wicks but just because the eco 2s work well for me it doesn't mean it will for you.

If you have zincs I'd suggest you try those. They do mushroom but they burn cooler and IMO cause less soot than eco wicks.

Also your best bet is to do what Chandlerwicks suggested. Testing seems to be endless. I have been making candles for over 3 years and am just starting to get everything down to a good thing and I'm happy for the most part with my work. A ton of money invested and wasted along the way but it's the name of the game.
