  1. Have to agree with Grumpy, it's not all that much as people think. Buy by the pallet and your good to go. Take adavantage of free shipping as well, C&S just had a free shipping on 500.00 or more I took full advantage of it with wax....At least they offer it on wax most suppliers won't do that so kudo's to C&S!!!!

Well, like most everything else, I plan on continuing to buy it an pass the cost on to the consumer. I mean honestly, what else are ya gonna do, absorb the cost? In the grand scheme of things, $0.40 isn't important enough to lose sleep over.
  2. Hi there..If you are using straight soy you will get better throw from a blend. Oils need heat to throw well, soy burns cool so you don't get as a good throw. Mixing para with it will deff increase your throw. Also your soot might be from your oils, you could be adding to much I know you said you tried different loads but you would be surprised by backing off the correct amount your J223 candles won't soot at all...I do a blend but used to use straight J223...hth :grin2:

I am having an awful time with getting a decent scent throw. I posted on the CB 135 thread. At this point I am considering adding paraffin and doing a blend. Does blending soy and paraffin increase scent throw? What paraffin wax do you prefer when mixing with soy? I have read that many use J223. I worked with this wax in the past when I made strickly paraffin candles. I had problems with soot when using it no matter what wick or FO load I used. Maybe mixing soy with it would take care of the soot problem?
  3. I absolutely agree with being polite and certainly would not say to have my lawyer look at it....but offering a replacement before seeing the actual candle and damage is going to put a chandler in the poor house, I don't care if they get defensive or not, I want it back.

Eveyone mentions bad CS with a company can spread like wild fire well so can't suckaaaaaa..:tiptoe: We all obviously know to be polite, that goes without saying, or at least I would hope so but I would also not send any replacement until the product came back and not 3/4's burned either.

Yes it is only an 8oz tin but what if she has twenty friends....I honestly hate being a pesimist but a candle that splatters all over the table and walls??? Not even an air pocket would do that it would just drop down into the void and the flame would be huge...

I for one cannot wait to hear the outcome of this...

With all due respect, I think this would make the customer upset and defensive. For the sake of customer service, at the very least a replacement should be offered, along with an apology.

It doesn't have to be, "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry that my candle damaged some of your stuff!" It can be said without admitting any guilt... "I'm so sorry to hear that ____ was damaged".

Giving the customer the benefit of the doubt (again, this is not to say that your candle was actually defective or caused damage), put yourself in her shoes. You give a candle as a gift only to hear that *somehow* wax got all over and ruined some of your friend's things... So you contact the person you purchased it from and they ask for pictures and for you to return the candle so you can show it to your attorney. No offer of a refund or a replacement. I don't know about anyone else, but I would be apalled and upset.

  4. Hey Christy NE nice to see you again (lindak). Anywhoo i was thinking the exact same thing you were, they aren't looking for a replacement i think they are fishing here. Asking for pics may not solve your problem as those can be easily fabricated. To be safe and see what their motives are you can email back as ask them if they would like a replacement candle and if so they will need to send back the candle so you can investigate it further. Don't incriminate yourself.....put the ball back in their court and see how they respond because most people that want a replacement candle or refund will ask for that right away...

Hey girl!! Yeah I guess you can fabricate but who would put the time into that for a candle? Course people never cease to amaze me. 9 times out of ten when people claim something was broken or didn't work and you ask them to send it back @ your cost and you never hear from them.

I had that woman last year say my candle did something and I told her I would gladly replace it for her, could I please have the four digit number off the bottom of the jar for the lot #...yeah she supplied one.....ahhhh I don't have four digit numbers on my labels...doh!!!! lmao...I still love that one...

  5. Nope doesn't sound like she's looking for sympathy at all....more like money. Tell her to take a picture of the damage and the candle and send it to you.

Edited to say if she claims they cleaned it all up if the wax was dyed there will still be evidence on the walls from the dye....Not even a strong draft would cause the wax to splatter all over the wall and there would be no flame to keep a pool, it would have to be a tsunami!!! lmao......Honestly sounds like a scam to me..

  6. Are those the ones from "Our Own Candle Co"? I saw this manufacturer at an antique store last year in Maine but they were in those handle mason jars. The guy was so proud of them as he got them at a trade show and everyone was swarming all over them. Last month I saw them on a dollar store supplier site that I have access to for .50¢..yeah that's a quality candle alright!!! lmao

I was in the line at the grocery store' date=' look up, and they have square mason candles for $1.00, they smelled yummy!! But for $1.00?? They looked to be half way filled though, from a manf. in NY. Has anyone seen these?[/quote']
  7. hey all...I need to find someone for a potential account. I stopped doing the lotions and stuff a few months back and really don't want to get back into it.

Anyhow I need someone who does the following butters, gels, lotions, polish and bombs etc and would be willing to accept a private label. If your not good at designing labels we can colaborate on that aspect so don't worry if your label design isn't up to par....I want a website to look at, I want my client to have a website/product to look at...so if you don't have one we're going to have to pass...Examples/history of private label would also be good...if that's what you do.

Pm me with web addys so I can review the product and forward them onto her...thanks I hope this works out for whoever gets the gig and hopefully me so I can do the labels for it!!! lol....

  9. I placed an order yesterday afternoon around 3:00' date=' I received it today at 1:00. Grant it they are only 2 1/2 hours away, but thats darn fast service to me! AND, Crystal was SUPER nice!! Just thought I'd share.[/quote']

Well if they are close that's great for you :D Have you ever tried their oils? They did nothing for me OOB or in wax. I don't know the ones I have tried in the past and some that were just passed off to me were not up to par. When I dig them out I'll let you know what scents they were.

  10. I did a search on these and came up with lots of instructions on how to do them my question is how do you come up with price? the same as with candles cost x3 or is there another equation? And with packaging some said they put something under them then wrap in cello with a bow what do you recommend to put under? What about using a doll stand or something like that? TIA for input as always!

I only did one size that where 7 1/2 to 8" tall...25.00 each no one blinked an eye, I had a couple of accounts selling them for 30+. I dress them up pretty though, sick really with cute little bows and all that..included a plate then wrapped in cello.. and yes deff white you can dye your wax so you make them any color you want...hth

  11. Christy, I don't think they have the lids I like (attached), but thanks for the link, it might come in handy. Using the seams to line up my wicks is just so normal for me. I pour so slushy that I cannot see the wicks in the bottom of the jar, so I wick them lined up with the seams, then line them up with the seams after I pour. Of course I am sure I can find a way around it.

    Thanks again for the responses!

Yup Filmores lids are a bit different..the plastic thingy is closed and not open like TJS...but still have the same plastic/rubber stopper. At least not like TVG's where they are pita to fit...good luck to ya

  12. I will try the lavender vanilla. Has anyone ever tried lavender rose or lavender and ylang ylang? Just curious as to how those would mix...

Ewww!! don't do the Ylang ylang!! I don't know anything that could make that stuff smell nice..lol..but that's me....do the vanilla...you'll love it...

  13. I have some questions to all you business people out there..

    1. Have you tried renting a rack space from a shop owner to sell your candles or soap?

    2. Who does the selling in this set-up?

    3. Do you have to give a percentage of the sales to the shop owner?

TIA.. Looking forward to all your replies..:smiley2:

I used to do it but it was just to much of a pita to keep up with restocking inventory, keeping up with what was selling, pulling stuff that wasn't, I'm very bad at doing my "paper work" so others probably find it not a problem just to time consuming for me. The shop owner is responsible for the selling. The percentage I was paying was either 8 or 10% plus a monthly booth rental fee.

  14. call me frugal but it worked...I found 4 folding doors sitting out someones house, the ones they use for say closets with slats and built my own....I just hinged them together, broke slats on each side (same level on each side lol), had home depot cut some plywood planks the width I wanted and they slide right though..if you want a pic of what I did pm and I'll send ya one....They fold up nice and flat and I just tie off with a bungy cord so they don't flap around when I carry them in and out of shows....I have another set found the same way just waiting for me in my shop...

  15. Unless my calendar is wrong, I believe today is April 7th.

I agree, it takes time to get things done, but dang, I wasn't expecting a pulitzer prize winning novel's worth of information or anything--only a simple quick tip sheet or something.

Maybe she's a perfectionist and that's why it seems to be taking a long time. I'm sure nobody here wanted to put her out in any way. People are on here begging for it, maybe she could pop in and let us know she's working on it or something.

Your calender is wrong....Today is April 4th.

Edited: must have been typing and posting at the same time...Thats what I get for not "refreshing"

  16. Now now don't forget the American Bulldog....lol ;)

Hey! It's cool to see dog people on here...

I also work very hard promoting our breed.. American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshires are both made out to be "bad dogs" when half of the time it's a mutt, "pit bull type" dog that attacks. People should educate themselves before making assumptions. These breeds may be animal aggressive, but they should never be people aggressive. They aren't guard dogs!! I know many people that show these dogs, and the years I spent working as a vet tech, I have only come across a few mean APBTs/SBT... and those dogs were only out of control because of their idiot owners!!!

haha ok enough of my rambling...

ps... thanks for the candle help!! :wink2:

  17. I don't believe rubbing alcohol will work. You can use a solvent containing Xylene (brand name in the States is Goof Off for instance) or mineral spirits. It will completely dissolve the wax as well as the paint.

Please open windows and/or use a fan so your wife doesn't have to drag you out by your feet.

You might want to use a heat gun and paper towel first to minimize the residue.

Works for me on my concrete floor :D I use the 90% or whatever comes in the red label at wallyworld
