  1. I thought you always wanted to add the FO, make sure it blended well with the wax and then add your dye to the mix. And I asked for a Presto Pot for Christmas. This is the first time in years I can't wait until Christmas, lol.
  2. http://www.peakcandle.com/products/SMALL-Flip-Top-Caps-(Qty-6)__A1021.aspx Just to make sure... Is this what you were referring to?
  3. Heading to Peaks now, lol. I was asking my hubby today if he had any good ideas on how I could measure them without the occasional spillage down the sides. Thanks so much!!!!!
  4. Now we are getting into the good stuff, lol. This made me go "oooooh". Okay, so do you order them from a certain supplier that sends them with a squirt top or do you transfer them to a bottle with a squirt top? I am still in my testing stages, so I am doing a lot of onesy twosy candles also, but as a newbie, I am not quit sure what pipette is.... can you explain please? And thanks for everyone so far.
  5. What happens if you "overpour" the FO? Do you not measure it from the bottle?
  6. I am curious what other people use to weigh and pour their F.O.s? And I am not talking scales and such. But what do you pour it into on the scales? I am using a small measuring cup. I knew before I even used it that first time that once I did, it could only be used for F.O.s ever again and I am ok with that. But, I noticed after the first time that it left a yellow film in it even after washing it out immediately with hot water. I keep washing it out after each use and use a papertowel to dry it for my next round of candles. But, I am wondering what other people do and how they go about keeping it clean????
  7. I made some test candles two weeks ago and made two sets of each scent all from the same batches. I then gave my mother one of each scent and I kept the other, since I know my mother will be brutally honest with me. My linen candle ran me out of the room the scent was so strong, but my mother said when she burnt her's, she could not smell it unless she stuck her nose up to it. So maybe it is the person and not the candle. I am still new to the whoel candle-making and still going through testing steps, so I can't tell you what might have went wrong, but I can tell you that I have already learned that two people can get two different smelling-views from the same candle.
  8. I am so excited about this weekend. It is another "testing" weekend for me, since my new jars and wicks will be arriving today. But, I plan to test some regular Christmas scents to hopefully find the right combo in order to make some Christmas presents in the next few weekends. But, my pot will have Bayberry, Mulberry, Jasmine Honeysuckle, and a scent I am very excited about that should be arriving today, Fresh coffee!!! My husband wants me to throw some Gardenia in there also, since that is his favorite.
  9. Can I ask the supplier of the FO? I tried LoneStar's regular Cherry Blossom a couple of weeks ago, but it does not seem to have a HT or CT (of course it might be me). I was wanting to try a different Cherry Blossom and was tempted to order their Japanese Cherry Blossom.
  10. So far, I have found that for me, Candle Science has the best shipping rates for me, by far. But, I am also new to candle making and I have learned it is best to shop around. I even open several candle suppliers and put the same items in all my carts and go through the "checkout" process to the point it calculates my total with shipping to see who gives me the best rate.
  11. Thanks for all the responses. I have ordered me a set of 9oz oval hexagon jars to see how I like those. Unfortunately I do not have a decent supplier anywhere near me, so I have to pay shipping. But, Candle Science seems to have some really great shipping rates and actually counteracts what I would spend in gas driving anywhere; since I do live in the middle of nowhere.
  12. Okay, I have been searching and searching for the "jar" that I will stick with. I have looked at several different stores on-line and I cannot seem to find the one that screams Me!!!! I really really like the Balmoral jars and the whisper jars (which have close to the same shape). But, I am worried that most of those jars will require more than one wick. I am wanting one style of jar to "master" and wanted something with a little more flair than just the jelly jar. I am not wanting too big, because I don't want the candle to last forever. So, I said all that just to ask what is everyone's preferred jar? Do you have a favorite, not neccesarily easiest, because once I pick out "my jar", I will test and test to get it right, so easiest is not really a concern. I started out with the apothecary jars, but they seem a little to - everyday - to me. Or if someone can confirm that with the right wick a 3.5" diameter will not need more than one wick, I may give in and go with the 11.75oz Whisper jars. But, I am really just looking for opinions. Please and thank you.
  13. I am trying to stay away from their website right now while I try to find a local supplier. I went "browsing" at Candle Science over the weekend and ended up with way too much in my cart, lol. I had to leave the site before I was tempted to hit "Checkout".
  14. Okay, so I found a local dealer for candle making supplies, but they only sell three different kinds of container wax, J223 (more than one pour), J50 (one pour) and CPOP. I can find threads when searching out J223 & J50, but when I try to search the forums for information on CPOP, it all comes up at soap making threads?????????? Anyone ever used this wax or know about it? I would love to be able to find a local supplier, but if I have to use not-so-good wax or hard-to-work-with wax, it is worth it to me to pay shipping costs.
  15. Thank you!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!! I searched for them all over the place. Now lets hope they carry my wax.
  16. Okay, I have searched the Supplier by State list and the one place listed for Alabama is no longer in business. Does anyone on here know of a different list or know of a supplier in Alabama? More specifically, the Birmingham-Metro area. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.....
  17. Oh I am not using 6006, just one of the searches I did revealed someone saying they use 6006, so I wasn't sure if the wick they used would work with the wzx I am using. I am using IGI 4630. I think I am going to buy ECO 12 & 14, HTP 73 & 83 and see how those work. I do not know enough yet to figure out when something might need 2 wicks versus one wick. If I cannot find anything that works well, I may try to double wick.
  18. I seem to like the shape of this jar, but since it is not one size all the way up, I am unsure how it should be wicked. I searched the forums for "whisper" and saw where someone used HTP126 and another person used ECO 14, but they did not use the same wax. One was 6006 and I don't think the other one gave their wax type. I am using 4630 with the Height is 4", Diameter is 3-3/4", and Capacity is 14oz. Umm... it is the 18.5 Libby Whisper Jar that Candlewic sales, if you want to look at it (these for gift giving). I also want to start testing with the 110z LIbby Whisper Jar on their site also, it has a Height of 3-1/4", a Width of 3-1/2", and a Capacity of 9 oz (these for around my house). Any suggestions would be helpful, since the jar does start small, then gets larger, then gets smaller. I plan to try the two wicks listed above, but wanted a few others to add to the order when I place it. Hope I provided enough info to start with. Sidebar: Also learned that there was or still is a person with the word whisper in their name, because I pulled up all of their posts when searching, lol.
  19. My first slab came from Lone Star and it was wrapped and labeled. While my box was damaged along with a few items in the box (I think due to UPS), my wax was clean and unmarked. I just received my second shipment today, but tried Candle Science and everything was shipped perfectly. My wax is also wrapped and labeled. I am glad to know not to order from Candle Source, for my waxxing needs.
  20. Now I am scared of spigots after reading those threads, lol. Because as scattered as I am normally - I can see me pouring wax all over my floor. I can also see my cats walking through it and tracking it everwhere. Oh my my my!!! They are already all in my business when I do anything, even when it involves hot things.
  21. Oh wow thanks so much!!! I have been "thinking" about looking at labels even though right now it is just a home hobby and I am only burning my candles in my home. But, I am hoping to give some away for gifts at Christmas if I have found a good setup by then. So, this is perfect. Thanks so much!!! And as a couponaholic - I am really loving this.
  22. Next item on my "need to buy" wish list - a presto pot. Although, after reading everything and looking at the instructions on Peak Candle, I am still undecided about a spout.... I can see pros and cons. so, I am guessing it is a personal prefrence and not a right/wrog kinda thing.
  23. Oh I did that. But, there is something about the wax being in the jar that makes it more exciting and prettier.
  24. Well, one thing is for sure, no matter how much you read and how much you prep, until you get in there and do it, you cannot learn enough and know everything. Not saying I now know everything after just one batch. But, now I have answered some of my still lingering questions and have more questions. But, at least my first batch is behind me and I now know what I am in for. My first issue is the scents. I now seem to have a major headache after standing over the stove stirring in frangrance. Not sure what to do to prevent that. My second issue is allowing my hubby to help. He pulled one of my wicks loose after I poured the candle and he wants to add the dye, but not one drop at a time, lol. Since he loves to get involved with things I do, not sure what to do about him either. My third issue is waiting for them to cool. I want to sit there and blow on them so they can cool and I can get the full color effect. I find my self wondering back into my kitchen and "watching" them. So, I have come in here to keep me out of there. Which that leads to my fourth problem. I want to burn it now, lol. But I know I must wait. I might have to put them in a closet or something so I don't have to look at them everyday until I get to like them. Overall it was fun and I learned alot. Already planning my next supply order since I did not order enough scents the first time and when I placed my order, I did not realize that I needed to use 1 ounce of fragrance per 1 pound of wax.
