  1. Hi ,

I have been trying to come up with a business name for around 6 months and I am well and truly stumped.

I do know that I want it to have a country primitive feel and I absolutely love butterflies but do not know how I can combine the word butterfly into a candle business name?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

  2. Jar configuration is really important. The honey jar depends on circulation or draft for efficient performance. The top half of the jar sucks in oxygen and it circulates easily but half-way through; the jar configuration causes the heat of the flame to push out the air and prevents a draft or circulaton of air. Further down the jar the flame does not interfere with the circulation because it is a lot like the beginning of the burn. Straight sided jars do not interfere with adequate circulation and create a nice large melt pool that releases your fragrance into the room. You probably need to look at a zinc or cd wick. The zinc burns cooler and the candle lasts longer but the cd burns hotter and the fragrance oil is vaporized and fragrances the room. Try upping your fo percentage and change out your wicks. Get rid of the honey jars if you want to keep all your hair. HTH

Thank you for this wonderful information, I have been trying to wick the honey and smaller jam jars for ages but kept having problems with dying wicks, it's nice to know that it isn't me it could possibly be the jars causing this.

With regards to straight sided jar I have tried Eco 4 and 8 and didn't get full melt pool. If I just use paraffin one pour container wax what cd wick size should I start with?

    Many thanks

  3. Hi,

I was using a blend of 80% paraffin and 20% c3. The honey jar is 75mm wide and 95mm tall. The straight sided jar is 3 inches wide by 3 inches tall. I have been trying cd and eco wicks, achieved nearly full melt pool on first burn with a cd16 in the straight jar but then on subsequent burns it never managed to get to full melt, have also tried upto an eco12 but again never got to full melt apart from right at the bottom of the jar. Thanks

  4. Please can someone help me before I throw all my supplies in the bin!!!

I am trying out 2 jars, one straight sided about 3 inches diameter and the other is the one pound honey jar that has shoulders. My problem is that any jar that has shoulders the wick seems to get really small about halfway down the jar, first few burns start off well then at halfway point wick gets really small but then towards the end of the jar the flame picks up again and burns ok again. I am not happy that the wick gets so small halfway through. Surely it can't be lack of oxygen as the flame picks up again when the candle is near the end? Any ideas?

Also are the straight sided jars hard to wick? I thought they would be easy peasy but the problem seems that as the jars are about 3 inches wide and have no shoulders there is not any extra heat to help with melting the wax and I find that I don't get any scent throw for at least the first half of the candle?

  5. I am going to place an order with ics as I need more sugared spruce and I thought I might as well try some others as well. This is what I have in my basket. Any thoughts on how these do? They will be used in candles and melts in a parasoy blend. Thanks

  6. My cold throw is great right away but the hot throw needs more time how long have yours been curing now and am curious about your hot throw. I remember my first batch thinking heck I can leave one open in bathroom and smell it better than when I burn it but that was when I was using 1 oz per lb and pouring at 160 I change to the 8.5 percent and pouring at 125 and can get a way better HT even in just a two day cure but set the rest to cure for two weeks cannot wait!

Well I think mine had cured about a month by then, I hate curing, I'm so impatient, I just what to light them up as soon as I've made them :)

  7. I did not cure tart put in burner yesterday after it hardened as I could not wait so a week or so cure time not sure how much stronger it will be but I burned 4 hours yesterday immediate awesome scent throw, has been going since I woke up this morning so I am now at 12 hours and I can go outside come back in the kitchen and the burner is sitting in living room and I smell when walking through outside door......amazing.....so I should have tested one but for the large space I have always burned two melts from scentsy so wanted to test the same way as I burned in the past....I am thrilled at this point will be testing patchoulli, and Oatmeal milk and honey in near future as soon as this one fades. What is the normal time on a tart melt??? I love tart melt making working out well, now to get the candle to smell this strong and I will be a happy girl (using all soy so hoping with IMC's instructions and a two week cure that I will be happy, I have gotten a big improvement using IMC's instructions and only giving a two day cure my 8 oz jelly jar using only c3 and Kuzu is scenting my entire sunroom a 200 square foot space!)

Wow that is good, think I will have to get some pb wax and try it out.

What fragrance did you use? I have found that some fragrances last longer than others. I'm not sure how long a tart should last , some say on here that they last for days however I have not been able to get strong hot throw over about 8 hours but I use the tealight warmers so perhaps that makes a difference.

  8. I can use less sometimes but for ease of use, I use 1 oz pp in my soy. I've smelled lots of the oils and have a huge collection over here. Stacy discontinued one of my oils and let me have her last bit of it because I was in love with it so much!! I will forever be able to put that one on as a perfume.

She has an affinity for vanillas and bakery and also high end perfumery. I've loved every oil I've ordered.

The only one I can't get to throw well is sweetgrass and it is such an amazing smelling oil......anyone who has tried this tell me what I need to do!!!!! I'm in love with this one too.

I too have sweet grass and I absolutely love it but unfortunately for me I can't get a good hot throw either, I repoured it yesterday and added the fragrance at a lower temp , just waiting for it to cure. I will report back and let you know if I get any better hot throw.

  9. Good advice!! You are right if I like the one in two days pretty darn good then in two weeks I will probably love it I need to be patient, I do love the blend for the tarts it is smelling my living room and kitchen in one burner not even cured but melts are easier than candles! I will wait I am determined to keep it all soy I will wait!

    Thanks again IMC!

    Sherry

    Hi Sherry,

Yep I can agree the c3 really does seem to benefit from a longer cure time. I made some candles up and burned them after a weeks curing , wasn't too impressed with hot throw so put them away, then yesterday every time I walked past my cupboard I kept getting this wonderful smell, it was the c3 candles that I had put away and forgotten about.

I had not thought of mixing the c3 and pb for tarts, I am having a hard time making a tart that lasts past 8 hours, would you kindly report back and let me know how long your tarts are lasting?

    Thanks x

  10. Thanks for reply. The metal sustainers I used was quite small and I'm pretty sure I had the 3 metal sustainer's touching. I think I will use the bigger sustainer's next time and place wicks slightly wider apart.

I think the wicks might be abit big as I achieved a full melt pool on the first burn.

  11. Hi Karen,

Yep definately give Candle Cocoon a try, Lyschel has some wonderful scents, her creme brulee cafe is gorgeous but I couldnt get it to last too long in a melt (I know you only do melts) but you might be able to get it to last longer, also her coconut macaroon is gorgeous oh another one pumpkin coffee is lovely as well, I dont smell much coffee but it sure is a nice fragrance and my favourite of all time is brewed jasmine, a lovely clean floral.

  12. Yes!

The 7up Pound Cake is a lemon-lime cake and is strong and long lasting. The Apple Dumpling is as well. Very cinnamon-y and one of my favorites.

Great these are definately going in my order then :) How long would you say that these fragrances last in your wax melts?
