  1. Hi shicks,

Thank you so much for sharing your blend :) I'm back to testing the c3 again , I tested it for a few months but gave up on it as I couldn't get it wicked correctly . However today I have made up some c3 candles as I do love the look of soy candles .

I'm in the UK and I work in grams and percentages , I wonder if you would know what percent your blend is ? I would love to have a go at experimenting :) thanks for your time x

  2. Hi,

I tested excel for a few months a while back and i found that cd wicks worked best in it .

I had a few problems with it , first it did sweat with some fragrances , I made up candles with excel and c3 to test side by side and the candles that was made with excel would sweat , not in all fragrances but some whereas the c3 never sweated at all.

Also when I got all my testing completed and ordered another big batch of the excel it didn't behave anything like the previous batch , my previous wicks didn't work anymore and some of my candles appeared to have a scrambled egg appearance on top this was using the same oil and methods I had previously used with success.

I did get good ht with my candles , i found the ct wasn't as good as c3 though . After the second batch I decided not to continue as I didn't want to use a wax that was that inconsistent . Hope this helps .

  3. Thank you Trappeur, I really hope I get lucky as well, I have been testing on and off for 3 years and I feel so embarrassed that I do not have a candle yet lol.  The only wax I had been able to wick correctly was the xcel but I don't want to continue using that.

Do you notice any big differences between the batches of c3?

  4. Thank you for your help :) I'm going to make up 2 candles with 6% fragrance with a htp 83 and 93 , I will post pics of that's ok when they are burning , thank you

I have tried these wicks before but it would have been with 8% fragrance so perhaps that makes a difference.

  5. Haha boring jars is what I have posted above , we can only get standard jam jars here they all look like this just either bigger diameter and taller. We can get status jars but they are so expensive we are talking about $9 for a status jar. We can not get the mason or ball jars here . I love the jars you have with them lids :)

  6. Thank you for your reply :)

The other jar was the next size up to this so it is 2.6 inches wide and taller. I don't think I went upto a 104 though , the wicks all died or of mushroomed bad. Do you trim your wicks? And if you don't mind me asking what percent of fragrance do you use? Thank you

  7. Thank you for replies :) I've never had much luck with htp wicks but I will give them another go , I do have some here that Tracey kindly sent me a while ago .

I do like the ht with the cd wicks but I find I keep getting mushrooms and this is with 6% fragrance also I noticed with the cd wicks that at first they bend beautifully and self trim but after a while they seem to get shorter and start to stand straighter losing the bend? Does that make sense? Not very good at explaining things . Forgot to say they are like small little shouldered jam jars.

  8. Hi,

I have decided to go back to testing with c3 , I started out with c3 but could never manage to get it wicked correctly so moved onto xcel wax and had good success with that(works well with cd wicks) but unfortunately there seems to be big differences between batches of wax so have decided to not continue.

Anyway I am trying to wick a small 60mm shouldered jar, the cdn wicks appear to work well with c3 but the smallest cdn I can get is an 8 and that's too big, I'm not liking the cd wicks too much in c3 , I can get premiers but not all sizes of premiers and I can get ecos but I've not had much luck with them as they seem to bend right over when burning into the melt pool.

So does anyone have any suggestions on what wick and rough size I should start testing with?

  9. Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help and explain why this is happening:

I made up 3 candles , all same size jar all with a cd4 , fragrances was 6,7 and 8%, the 8% one achieved full melt quite quickly and melt pool was deep but wick didn't have a mushroom, the 6% one took longer to get a fm and it also mushroomed. I thought that the 8% one would be the one to mushroom and take longer to get to a fm?

  10. Emily anne I can completely understand how you feel , I have been testing for 3 years now , I started out with paraffin couldn't get it right so moved on to soy wax then rapeseed wax , I also have hundreds of jars , I tried new jars thinking this will make it work and it didnt so I moved on to new wax and new jars and I had been going round in circles. However just this past month I feel like I am starting to understand abit more about how candles should burn . At first I thought that I had to accept mushrooms as no matter what I did I couldn't escape them , however I had a candle given to me that burned absolutely perfect, it required no wick trimming and there wasn't a shroom in sight! So then I started on a whole lot of new testing where I didn't want my candles to get mushrooms, I picked one wax and one brand of wicks and also one jar, the jar I have started with is small it's only a 4 oz jam jar and I have managed to wick 2 fragrances now that do not need wick trimming and they get no mushrooms, so now what I do is I make up 6 candles with 2 different wick sizes with fragrance % 6,7 and 8 and then I light them and watch them all burn. The 2 candles that I made that burned perfect had 8% fragrance yet I made another candle with a different fragrance with 8% and that burned not so good so I remade it with 7% fragrance and that burned better with no mushrooms but still not quite right so I will remake again with 6% fragrance and if it's not strong enough or still doesn't burn right I will move onto another fragrance. So fragrance % really does seem to affect the burn of a candle.

How long did you test the xcel wax for? And what wicks did you use ? X

  11. Well, nothing I search for comes back with results.  Too few letters in words, "removed" from search, or I'm searching too many times in too many seconds.

Even when I typed in something I knew should bring up results like "palm container test" I get no results for this search.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, this isn't my first pony show....search wise, but it's a shame, there is a lot of info on this board....it's just a heck of a lot harder to find......

Hi, I had this problem too and I discovered that in the search box at the top of the page there is a little icon that says' this topic' if I click on that it brings up forums so I clicked on forums and now I can search.  Hope that made sense :)

  12. Thanks Tracey , I did ask for vegetable shortening but they still looked at me as if I was mad ! Lol

I'm sure I have seen the flora white and cookeen before so I will pop to the shops later today, thank you.

  13. Good idea , thanks Tracey .

For the moment I'm not not adding in any scent I just want to get the consistency of the wax right.

I shall try the 5% and 10% coconut oil perhaps I could also try to up the Vaseline as well.

Yep it is a total pain not being able to easily get things, I went into waitrose and tesco (big supermarkets) and asked for it and they just looked at me and said never heard of it!
