  1. The decision by CS WAS NOT a smokescreen. I spoke in depth with one of the guys in the warehouse one day about the issue with the palm wax; it wasn't a flippant choice. Just because it doesn't follow along with your game plan, doesn't mean you should call CS out and say that they are blowing smoke. They are the nicest, most helpful, SINCERE people. As per the usual, unless it directly impacts us personally ... we could give a shit less how things impact others; especially if the repercussions can't be felt on our soil. http://www.economist.com/node/16423833
  2. Just so you know, that second sentence ... condescending. I'm not upset in the least and hopefully Beth isn't either. I have always found it rather sad when folks feel the need to talk down to people in order to make themselves feel superior, ESPECIALLY on an internet forum (that's just pathetic). Says multitudes about character ... EXACTLY ... which is why someone who has limited knowledge and just starting out wouldn't know any better. Every single candle supplier I've seen online thus far carry them. Hence the genius of a discussion to get feedback and share. Just to let you know Stella, I have learned so much from you. Your knowledge and willingness to share it is truly awesome! You are a blessing. I am really surprised to hear that. I haven't a clue who Diane so perhaps I don't know the difference, but every time I've had a question, they have been johnny on the spot to assist (I've had A LOT of questions). Even the guys in the warehouse have given me advise when I've gone to pick up my order. One even made a call to the front when he couldn't answer a question I asked.
  3. I found another definition in Webster! I'm going with number two ... condescension 1: voluntary descent from one's rank or dignity in relations with an inferior 2: patronizing attitude or behavior Anyways ... as Beth originally said, I would contact CS. As a consumer I've been weary of the plastic tea light cups.
  4. I'm a lightweight ... still haven't got my wicks down right. Nonetheless, I'm still a melting and mixing. Just poured Gardenia and I will be doing Jamaica Me Crazy tomorrow.
  5. I can speak from experience on the 6006, it works wonderfully in clamshells. CS just did a video with the clamshells using 6006 matter of fact. No to tarts unless you want to freeze every batch.
  6. rjdaines: I think you are 100% correct. I have a batch that I have made with the 6006 that I am doing doing another test with; didn't care for the HTP wicks in this wax. I will be able to burn these tomorrow after 12. Trying out the cd's that I tried previously, but doing it with a 24+ cure time. You are right about the melt pool too. Heather from CS told me that with her own personal experiance with 6006, you need to add an hour onto the first burn for a complete melt pool. I burned a candle with an LX 22 wick, it cleaned the sides beautifully altough I think it was a little too hot. A 20 would probably be perfect, but of course I am out of those. Iwantitgreen: I used an ECO 6, 8 and 10. I am sure my results would have been much different if I would have waited for the candles to set up. bugtussle: I LOVE this wax. I don't know why, but I do. Stella: It is sooo funny you said that because I was thinking the other day that I would never make it as a soap maker for that very reason! Horsescents: If I don't have any sucess with the CD's, I will give the zincs another shot. chuck_35550: If I continue having problems, I will bring down the FO and see if that helps. Thank you to everyone who contributing to this thread. I have barely been on the comp this past week ... sick, but still making candles! So I've got two candles setting up with a CD 12 & a CD 14. Cross your fingers for me!
  7. I am! They are soooo incredibly nice and helpful. I feel blessed!
  8. I researched it again and came up with some guidelines for curing time, guess I wasn't holding my mouth right the first time around. I am pretty convinced that I am not allowing enough time which is just contributing to the problem. Suggestions ranged from 3 days to a week. Gaw ... I have no patience. Horsescents, thank you for the suggestions, I will give them a shot. I am only 30 minutes from CS and every time I go to the warehouse, I fall in love. It smells so amazing in there. The first time I went I thought that it would probably be nauseating with all the different scents, but it isn't at all. Plus, they are the NICEST PEOPLE ever. Random I know ... Instead of sitting down in the middle of my kitchen floor crying and doing my best Meryl Streep impression, I revisited my GB 464 candles that I gave up on because of the HT; I've got about 40+ of those now collecting dust. I am amazed at the CT and HT four weeks later. The black raspberry vanilla is AWESOME! I made that one with a 9% load and 3% CO. The curing time did make all the difference in the world. Patience has never been one of my virtues and I'm learning rather quickly that it is a must in candle making.
  9. The flame stays consistent with the zincs, it burns really pretty ... no flickering and doesn't drown out. Just won't reach the edge. I am up to a 17 low smoke zinc now. Beth, I am thinking that I am not giving it enough time to set up properly and it may be contributing to the problem. I really don't know though. With soy I would give 24 hrs to set up prior to test burning. I thought with the parasoy that I could test sooner. I am probably way off base.
  10. I knew that there was a cure time for scent throw, but I did not realize that there was a week cure time to test for the general burn/melt pool. Good lawd! I am doing a test burn with the 8 oz tin right now with the last zinc that I haven't used yet, lol. It is about an hour in, I will take a picture @ 3 hour mark and post a picture. Honestly, I have not burned them to completion. I have been doing two 3 hours burns (I let the wax harden from the first and then light again). I always have a lot of hang up on the sides. Maybe I am just striving for a perfection that is not realistic. I may be basing my results on soy, which is what I started off with. Thank you!
  11. I am about to pull my hair out. I have been DESPERATELY trying to get a full melt pool with IGI 6006 in an 8 oz tin (9% FO). I have run the gamut of ECO's, LX's, HTP's, CD's and now I'm working with zincs. In the 8 oz tin with nothing but 6006, I was able to achieve a full melt pool within 3 hours ... beautiful. Throw some fragrance in there and I can't get a full melt pool to SAVE MY LIFE. Seriously, if it were a requirement, I'd be dead 10 times over by now. I've searched the forum, google, other forums and found suggestions and used them. I have to be doing something wrong. I start my test burn once the candle sets up (2-3 hours) ... could that be the issue? I have refrained from asking for help as long as I could. I REALLY wanted to wick a candle in this wax, just one, through trial and error; it's all an error. I started out with 464 and got that down fairly easy. I love 6006, but it doesn't love me. Thank you for any help in advance ...
  12. I sincerely hope you do not allow them to run you off. There are plenty of people here with invaluable advice who give it without an air of condescension or delusions of grandeur.
  13. Thank you ladies! : We'll be learning together sakuraserra.
  14. @debratant That not only makes sense, but it is pure, unadulterated GENIUS! I could kiss your face right now!!!
  15. Stella1952, I don't think I've ever tested something so much in life ... aside from my patience. I do believe my bf thinks I've gone mental, probably not much of a stretch. I lol'd when I read this! My MP3 player has been missing for well over a week; my five year old had no idea where it could be (yeah right). Steve told her today that if she found it, he would take her for ice cream. Amazingly enough, it was "found" in two minutes flat. Ice cream is an amazing truth serum!
  16. I spent the day trying to figure out the exact same thing. I had no luck in getting in touch with anyone at CS or NGI. Did you ever get a concrete answer?
  17. As soon as I find it, I will let you know. I think I know understand what having a crack addiction is like. I've got candles on the brain 24/7 ... literally. Stella, thank you for all the advice! I truly appreciate it. I still have 4 other FO's to try, so I will pour my next one @ 165 and see how that works. I hate that the pumpkin isn't working for the other folks because it REALLY IS AWESOME. My son (17) confiscated one of my testers; he said it smelt good enough to eat. I've got to go to walmart today so I'll pick up a digital thermometer while I'm there.
  18. Thank you Stella and I have a good feeling that I will be needing a stay in rehab. I feel SOOO much better now! I most definitely want to stay with soy, I am in love with it. I have the patience of a two year old; that candle hadn't even been sitting but for 7 hours before I burned it. I was just so excited. I am making three candles in each batch so I have one for my lack of patience and one to test. If it passes, I will be giving it my best friend to burn in her hair salon. I've read so many different time variables on the cure time, what do you recommend before burning? I feel very fortunate to only live 30 minutes away from CS. Instead of getting a kit, I used a couple of kits as guidelines for buying my initial supplies. I bought 50 lbs of GB464 so I would have plenty of room for error. I also got 10 lbs of Ecosoya PB to make tarts once I get the candle tins down. My only regret at this point is not buying a digital thermometer. I bought seven different FO's to test out, the one in the picture was CS pumpkin souffle. The smell of that candle is AMAZING! So far I've completed apple harvest, the souffle, hazelnut coffee (not too impressed with the cold throw, hoping it gets stronger) and I just poured creme brulee. Everything so far has been from CS, but I've printed up the "FO for soy" sticky and plan on using it to order more. I have a feeling that will be worth it's weight in gold. Thank you for the welcome, I have read so many of your posts on this forum, I feel like I already know you.
  19. I have a similar issue, except my candles look like Freddy Krueger's face after they have been burnt. This is the very first batch of candles I've made (yesterday) and was over joyed with how they turned out ... till I burnt one and it cooled. It seriously hurt my feelings. I am so inexperienced that I do not know if it is normal, although from what I've read on this thread, it very well may be ???? I heat to 185 and add FO & dye chips (2 for this candle) Poured at 100
  20. I'm a noob and I have spent countless hours lurking and reading here. I have always wanted to learn how to make candles. As with with so many other things in life, I never took or really had the time. I'll admit, I was a little intimidated as well. I found this forum and it spurred the passion and gave me a little boost of confidence because of all the things I learned here (trust me, I know there is still a TON that I don't know). Thank you to all the people who contribute, I think you are invaluable.
