  1. I am doing a big holiday show in a couple of weeks and I ordered some snowman plug in warmers(nightlight style) and am thinking about making up a few gift baskets to take with me. Perfect gift for teachers, Christmas party hosts, that someone that shows up unexpected for Christmas dinner or gives you a gift out of the blue.

    Beautiful!

I'll bet they did sell well. I love when I can get a sampler of something. I am certain people loved being able to try a bunch of your scents without a big investment and then they will come back for the ones they loved.

I went back and forth on how many squares to put in each of my bags. 4, 6 or 8. I landed on 4 and encouraged mixing and blending and it kept the price really low.

The leaves are so beautiful. I cannot wait to see the snowflakes! Those will be such a nice gift for anyone who has a friend or family member who melts. Perfect time of the year for that!

  2. Thanks. Still practicing on the shrink wrap corners!! I went back and put a label on the side of the box that they were not for human consumption because people kept thinking they were candies, lol.

    Those look great! Completely professional.
  3. Just made these to see if they would even sell or not. Sold most of what I made and have decided to make some in the shape of snowflakes for Christmas season. Hope to sell out!!

  4. Officially on the labels I still put cracklin birch however whenever my friend orders it is crack she asks for. I do feel like a drug dealer sometimes however. Meeting people in parking lots and exchanging items in boxes for cash.

Oh my..I'm with you girls and LMAO at Crack Bitch! Don't really know if that was the new name I was looking for but sometimes it's the names you think would never sell anything that just fly off the shelves..I bet we hane a #1 seller for sure with that special of a name, right??:tiptoe:
  5. All I know is be careful when texting it. When I gave the first 6 to my sales person to take out on the road and sell she ran out in 20 minutes. When she tried to text me she needed more cracklin birch the autocorrect changed it to "crack bitch". I laughed so hard I almost tinkled, lol. Now we just call it crack since it seems to sell as well.

  6. The only fragrance I made to a point to have a dup of is the Circle E Bird of Paradise. I live in Texas and that is the #1 selling candle here. Bird of Paradise is a common scent with fragrance oil suppliers but none of them smell like the Circle E. It took me months of testing and mixing to get one I liked as well as theirs. Is mine exactly like theirs, no, but it is just as good. The time and money spent was well worth it considering it is either my #1 or #2 seller, depending on the season. Sold over 2000 of those in the last year.

I do have a few others that are dupes that are just ones I ordered from oil suppliers. Some of them I didn't even realize they were dupes.

Whenever someone ask me for a Scentsy one I just tell them I am not Scentsy and I don't have a clue what theirs even smell like since I have never used any of their products.

  7. They are about 50% off retail price at least. I didn't have to provide credit reference. Just my tax id #. They require payment with a credit card at time of order if I remember correctly.

How much are they with wholesale?
  8. We use the Leather from Lonestar and everyone loves it. I personally can't stand the smell but we sell it like crazy.

Can anyone suggest a good leather? My brother used to buy Yank** leather for their vehicles. They always had that new car scent.
  9. I would take your best Fall Scents whether that be 5 or 8 different ones and maybe stick a year round seller, something clean. I would only take 1 size and take 6 of each. Sure enough if you only take 3 someone will by all three of your best scent and then you won't have any others for people to smell. i would even put an extra case of your best fragrance under the table. If you only take one size take an expmple of the other size and then you can take orders for those. Be sure and takes lots of business cards. Some may not want to buy that day but will call later.

  10. I have some tarts left over that I made for last Christmas sales. I really hate to sell them because they are were made last year. Would it be possible to remelt them and mix with new wax, color and oil. Maybe 50/50 to refresh them?

  11. I finally put some out to sell today and they are gone!!!. Made Leather, Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce(Type), Pink Victoria's Secret(Type) and Fresh Linen. The leather was the first to go believe it or not. I guess I better order more bottles.

  12. What's your name?
    Jill

    How old are you?
    46

    Where do you live?
    Lubbock, TX

How long have you been making candles/soap/whatever?
    2010

How did you get started making candles/soap/whatever?
By accident actually. My sister and I purchased an existing business and she was going to make the candles and I was going to keep the books, handle sales, delivery, purchase supplies etc. Then she had to have surgery 2 weeks after we started so I got to do everything for a while.

    Are you married? Any kids?
Marriesd almost 24 years. 21 year old son, 12 year old daughter. 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's it right now.

If candle making isn't your primary job, what do you do? I am an accountant by day and have no arts and crafts capability, at least I didn't. lol

    Anything else we should know?
I am a huge Texas Tech Red Raiders football fan. Very hard to focus on the weekends for me during football season but somehow we manage to get things done in spite of it.

  13. I am in business with my sister. She makes most of the candles, tarts etc. I handle the sales, marketing, materials ordering, delivering, customer service, website etc. For my sis it is the only source of income. For me I work full time as an accountant so no the candle business would have be really grow to replace what I make doing my day job. However my day job is my fathers company so I do get to spend alot of my day time taking care of the candle business, so I guess in a way I do make a living doing this.
