  1. I have 2 water jacketed melters. My most recent one I got from candlewick. We opted for the 220 volt on ours because it is more efficient to run that way. I leave mine on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unless I know I am going to be away for more than a couple days then I turn them off. Just got to make sure I keep the water full and I always keep a spare heating element around in case one goes out.
  2. Pumpkin Crunch cake from NG is creamy.
  3. Over the years I have had some bad batches of this wax and what really jumped out at me is the wax looked different, felt different and mixed different. I noticed it immediately and made a couple batches of candles and they didn't look "right" either. I immediately returned the wax, I get mine from Lonestar, and just like the poster above I order 5 cases at a time. Lonestar replaced my product with an entirely new lot # and no problem. A month later I received some of the original batch again and same issues as before. So yes it could be the wax, but I think you would notice it looking and feeling different.
  4. OMG I did not know that. I will definitely have to try that out!!
  5. I bought from Starrville with the previous owner's, apparently bought from them when Mike took over, fell for the email he sent saying the name had changed and ordered from him and by my own mistake ordered the wrong fragrance due to a confusing screen page. I offered to pay the freight to ship back what I got and pay the freight to get what I actually needed and was told NO since I was the one who ordered it wrong. He said no other company would switch oils with me if I ordered wrong. I called BS on that especially since I was going to pay all the freight to and from to fix it. That is not customer service in any industry. Then by chance that same day I received an email from the original Starville folks notifying me they were back and running, they had the product I needed in stock and I am happy to say I got what I needed in 3 days. Mike had the chance to keep a customer, he showed poor judgement and I will never order from him again.
  6. I have a spreadsheet I keep with a list of every scent and where I get it from just in case I throw away the bottle and forget. I haven't opened the list in a couple years since by now I remember them but it really helped when we were first getting started. We bought and existing business from someone so I wanted to make sure we kept using the same oils she did. Now I have a shelf that goes around my entire u shaped area and the oils are placed up there in alphabetical order(usually). That makes it so much easier for me to just walk in and at a glance and see how much of a certain oil I have on hand. When we get a order in I can in 5 minutes come up with how much of each oil I need, see how much I have in stock and boom place an order with what I need to make up the difference and restock.
  7. I have been overstocked on NG Pumpkin Crunch cake for a while so I started blending it with NG Red Delicious Apple and oh my it sold like crazy!!! I even liked it and I am not a Pumpkin person.
  8. I do the 1 oz sample cups that I buy in bulk at Sams club. On our top selling scents that we always sell on fundraisers we always have some in the bottom of the pouring pot. We just keeps those cups handy and fill em as we make candles. That way when we have a fundraiser come up we usually already have the scents ready to bag up. 6 samples, each person get a Ziploc with those 6 scents in em. If I get desparate and need some Ill just poor some scented wax in a cookie sheet and stick it in the freezer. One its set I take it out and break into bits with a hammer. Those pieces I put in a sample cup like the others. I have printed labels I stick on the cups just because I think they look better than my hand writing. I think we sell more candles buy doing the samples.
  9. We call ours City Fruit Stand
  10. I got some of this for Christmas and I love it!!!!!! I am a candle maker however I really want to try my hand at making something like this, even if its just for my own use. Where should I start. Not wanting a bar of soap but liquid with the olive oil.
  11. Good Luck. The main problem with the mod podge on the outside is first getting it on there but even once that is done if the jar gets wet at all it will get sticky. Even if you cure it in the oven. I will say even the liquid fill I mentioned feels a little "tacky" when I touch it but I think that is because I got too much on it. I was thinking of trying to spray it next time. The other paint did really well but make sure you get the thinner to go with it and very lightly brush it on. I have had great result with using spray paint on the inside of the mason jars but that is for the ones I use with the solar lids. Not sure how a candle would do.
  12. I have been testing painted mason jars for months because I not only make candles but sell solar lid lights for mason jars. Modge podge is great but won't work for candle because the glue will get pasty once you add the wax and it will really look bad. I have done a couple of paints on the outside of jar that looks great. There is a Martha stewart liquid fill paint that I thought looked good and it is cured in the oven and dishwasher proof. Also another pain glass paint I found on Amazon, Pebeo Vitrea 160 Glossy Glass Paint. Really like that one. Actually painted some jars and someone bought them immediately. I also painted some of my regular candle containers that I used for my bugoff candles this summer and I must say they looked really nice outside. Plan on practicing more this spring.
  13. Apple Cobbler Delight is wonderful. Great seller for us.
  14. You might try CTW millworks. They have an assortment of mason jar items
  15. Birthday Cake-makes we want to barf Leather-dirty feet Coconut Lime Verbena - ##%@ Generally anything with coconut
  16. I take mostly fall/holiday scents but I do throw in year round favorties, Butt Naked, Bird of Paradise, Caribbean, Jamaica Me Crazy and something clean like Fresh Linen. Plus I live in a college town and all the college girls love the Abercrombie and Fitch Fierce. Can't keep enough of that at shows. They call it their man in a jar.
  17. I keep a 5 gallon bucket right under the spout of our wax melter. It catches what I spill, what drips out of the melter, and also any mess-ups get dumped into plus any residue left in our pour pots gets poured into it. Generally I fill a backet up every 6-9 months. We only use paraffin so I use this wax for firestarters, and whenever I make cintronella candles for personal use I use this wax.
  18. I use the glue dots and I cut a piece of copper pipe down and I just place it over the wick/dot and push down. No problems.
  19. I use the Pineapple mange and I really like it. However I blend it with Grapefruit and love it.
  20. tx id # is all I had to have. You might try JKL international as well.
  21. I use Aroma Haven/RE French Vanilla & Oak. One of our best sellers
  22. I have blended leather and vanilla 50/50 with good success. Also blended leather and cool water which went over good. Someone suggested leather/fresh linen blend and call it cowgirl panties. Like the mix but not really the name. That might be good for leather and lace however.
  23. I have made some for my own use. 8 oz of base and I put in .25 ounce of oil. Worked for me
