  1. I've never pre-heated a jar or container in my life. There's simply no reason to do so with comfort blend, and especially with tins.

Are you saying you're pre-heating your fragrance oils? There's no reason to pre-heat oils unless one crystallizes due to freezing temps.

I don't know a single thing about the wicking you're using. Can't help you there.

Oh, edited to add: I've never used any additives with comfort blend. It's not necessary. That could certainly be inhibiting your throw.

    Hope this helps.

I read somewhere that preheating was a good idea. Thanks for the time saving tip. I did not preheat the FO. I thought about it though. I just added the FO to the wax at 180.

I think i'm good with the wicking, however i'm sure someone would say that the hot throw is directly related to the melt pool. So I put the tid bit about double wicking it in there. I used two L-12; HTP-52; ECO-6 in my double wicked testers. Same results in regard to FO throw. (Not letting them cure for 2-3 days)

I also read that paraffin didn't require a curing time. So my question to you would be the following: Now that i have burned the testers, can they still cure or should i start over with a new batch.

  2. Having trouble with CT & HT from the IGI4267. I'm sure its just something I'm doing so if you could help that would be great.

Below is what I have tried. Almost each FO was from a different supplier. Poured into pre-heated 8oz tins. 3" diameter.

Results: All resulted in poor FO throw. I've had better results from NB 464 soy. Hot and Cold throw. I also put the mango and moonlight Path in the electric candle warmer and did not notice a difference in the FO throw.

I did not get a full burn pool from any of the containers after 2.5 hrs, and put them out to test another FO.

I knew i needed to wick up so i tried double wicking my next batch. The results are just about the same in regard to FO throw.

This time i used 1/2% Vybar.

I've read the the pouring Temp is 175-185.

Your help is appreciated. Thank You!

  3. This wax requires you to heat it to 185 and then add fragrance. If you aren't getting your wax hot enough the fragrance isn't binding well. I heat it even higher for heavy fo's and most vanillas. As far as 12% fo load ? I couldn't afford to stay in business using that much fragrance in every candle, and this wax just doesn't require it.

180 is not hot enough to add fragrance and I am guessing right off that is your problem with cold throw. The fo is not binding as well as it should....that even affects hot throw. Try heating it to 185 and you should see a difference. I never go over 10% fragrance load and my candles are very strong both cold AND hot...most of my oils only require 6-8 %

Also......even if seepage doesn't show up right away, it can appear later on when you use too high of a fragrance load or a really heavy oil. My #1 example of a pain in the butt seeper is BCS Banana Nut Bread. It seeps after a while no matter what I do but it's the best out there so I just put up with it ;)

This wax does allow you less waiting for candles to cure...but I let ALL of mine cure at least 12 hours before testing. Some throw awesome at that time, some take longer. I like oils that throw in 24-48 hours because I make my candles to order. Years ago I coudn't do that, but now there are plenty of suppliers out there with oils that allow me to do so..

    good luck!

Would you mind suggesting your #1 supplier for FO's.

I'm having some bad luck with suppliers. Could you please suggest your favorite place.

  5. So glad to find some other Illinois people here - and - to read a review of NuScents. I thought it was just me they were rude to.

They actually have been a bit better since they moved to WI (yea, I get to drive further now) - their general mood has improved.

I would much rather buy my C-3 from someplace in ILL - so suggestions or co-buys would be wonderful news.

I get a few B&B supplies and some glassware from them because I can pick it up - for the most part their FO's are not too hot. A few scents, yes but nothing you can't find elsewhere - and they discontinue scents ALL the time so I have learned not to rely on them for a product line of one fragrance.

Hey - PM me if you are in ILL - would love to compare notes.

    Angela

Angela, Can't PM yet but i'm just getting into the business. PM me if you can. Looking for local suppliers too.

  6. I checked the dpswax website and Mimosa is not listed. However, you can email here info@dpswax.com and ask if they have any in stock. I know that this is where Nu-Scents gets their products because I have been there when they have done pickups. Perhaps DPS has some that is not listed on the website. Might not hurt to ask.

I hope you find what you are looking for. Questing is tough.

Do you know of any other suppliers near Joliet. (Glass, fragrance, equipment...ect)

  7. Amazing Update: I burned one of my 6006 jj candles, that I made on 4/11/11 with 1 oz p.p. of CS Wildberry Mouse, today & the HT filled a 650 sq foot room! :) I could not believe it! Even after 2 weeks cure I had gotten no HT from those on the candle warmer, but NOW they work!!!

    Did you change wicks????
