  1. I using 415 wax and 1 reddiglo chip and 1 oz of F/O per lb. I have been using cd wicks and am at wits end. I love the cd's in the jars I use but now I am testing 12 oz status jars. I started using a cd-8 and it was too small so I went to a 10. It was ok but still too much hang up for my liking. I tried a cd-12 and it was tunneling badly. Where do I go next?? CDN? HTP? I hope what I am asking isnt private information and if it is I will understand. I am just at the point where I dont know what to try. Ive read alot of the board answers and couldnt really find what I was looking for. I burned the first for 3 hours and then burned in 3 hour intervals all the way to the bottom of the jars. I never reached a full pool so I tried power burning and still the same thing. Am I asking for too much and being too picky?? I have about 3/16 of an inch of wax on the sides. I really would like all the wax to be used and then I will feel like I accomplished what I set out to do. Thanks, Tina
  2. They are hit and miss. They are about an hour away(no pick ups allowed) and sometimes things come in 2 days and sometime they show in 2 weeks for the same item. Still a good supplier though. Tina
  3. I took mine back to Kmart and they did not give me any problems. The woman asked why and I told her about the safety issue even if it wasnt the same brand and she said she could understand. They gave me a full refund. I also prayed for the boy and his family. Too bad it took such a horrible accident to bring this to light. Tina
  4. I just purchased one and the gel last weekend at K-MART. I also bought it for the bugs. We use it at our camper. THANK YOU for the information. I will not be using this anymore. My type is made by TIKI Tina
  5. Even if you entertain the idea the safety issues outweigh the overall good. Open flame !!!NO WAY!!! Wood stove only with a metal trivet or something else to keep it up off of the surface and give you air between the stove and pot. I cant think of any other way to not have the direct heat of the stove overheat the wax and cause combustion. Constant temp checking! Just not a comfortable feeling for me to do it. If they dont mind you making a double boiler than that would not be a bad idea but still with something in between the pot and stove. Just my 2 cents... Tina
  6. I am using 415 wax but I dont know if it realy makes a difference or not on the wax type. I had the same problems also. Keep the pouring pot as close to the spigot as possible and start on an angle like pouring a beer until you get a good amount in the pot. The bubbles are cause by the splashing off of the bottom of your pouring pot. I have found that if I stir the wax after I finish pouring, the bubbles will go away. On a different note I had a spigot in another pot that no matter what I did i got tons of bubbles so my hubby changed it out to another spigot and its been nice and smooth since. Hope this helps you. Tina
  7. I also purcahsed numerous books and made trips to the library but I have to be honest, I could have saved money by just reading the forums. There is a wealth of knowledge from the other members and tons and tons of info from the new and old forums that you can read for days on end. The difference also is alot of the subjects have pics of peoples projects which is also inspiring. You can always ask questions here and for the most part they will be answered nicely and you will be turned in the right direction. Tina
  8. I too keep my lid close and a fire extinguisher close by just in case of a fire! Accidents can and do happen!! My hubby made me 2 presto pots from the link above and they work beautifully. I paid 20 dollars from wallymart for the pots and he said it costed another 10-12 dollars for the spigot setup. Drips will happern after turning off the spigot but wait a few seconds and it stops completely. Spend the money on a good ball valve and it will control that. I usually pour from the spigot into my pots and color and add fragrance. I have never done it in the presto. I could see it if I was doing the same color and f/o for numerous candles. I clean out the presto by wiping what I can with paper towels and then I add water and get it very hot and run it through the sipgot and that cleans out the spigot. I learned that if I forget to run the hot water through the wax hardens up in the valve and causes problems for the next time I use it. The only thing I dont like about this system is that the spigot could never be drilled low enough for all the wax to be emptied so I have to tilt it when I get to the bottom and that sucker can be hot to the touch but I still love the system. Tina
  9. My votives used to do the same because the flat bottoms of the pins would still be stuck in the wax. I put mine in the ice box after they harden for a few minutes and the bottoms come off without breaking. HTH Tina
  10. Well here are some pictures. They have been burning for 3 hours in a non drafty room. 1st wick is starting to tunnel and hardly any flame (RRD-47) 2nd wick is ECO-10 and its burning well with about A 1/2" pool and a little hang up which I think will catch up. Next wick is the EC0-12 its burning well also with a little hangup but I have less depth in wax pool (aprox 1/4") and I am getting a dancing flame. For the 1st burn I am leaning towards favoring the ECO-10 for this formula and jar/wax and f/o. I am going to extinguish, cool and trim the wicks and re-burn again later for another 3 hours and see whats going on after that. I will keep you posted after the second burn. I've also noticed some adhesion problems but I didnt warm my jars with these testers and it was kinda rainy and cold that day which possibly caused it? Tina
  11. I will definately post when I test.I am probably not going to test until tomorrow which will be almost 72 hours dry time. I will post pics as they burn. The color is Peach reddi glo diamond chip formula of 1 per pound of 415 and my F/O is 1 oz of CS PEACH per pound. I will start with 3 hour burn times at first and then may 6 hour power burn the 2nd time but not sure about the power burn if I dont have the 6 hours time do watch it. Tina
  12. Well I just finished pouring some testers and am pretty excited about trying some new wicks. I DO NOT SELL my candles but being here has made me so aware of trying for the "perfect" candle. I have had family members beg me for some samples but I refuse until I get this 100 perfect. I firmly believe in the safety and security of knowing I gave someone the right product and not just something thrown together that could possible hurt them. Ive only been pouring for 6 months and firmly believe I have not yet come to the level I need to say that I have got it right. I purchase and burn candles from others at flea markets and craft fairs just to see whats out there and let me tell you some of the products put out there are HORRIBLE but who am I to judge. I just know I am doing the right thing and waiting...... Besides I am having a ball doing all of this and hubby is about 1/2 way through the new workshop. Electricity is being run this week!!!! Cant wait. His eyes rolled when I asked him to run cable and cat 5 so I can watch TV or surf while waiting for wax to cool. Hey he asked what I needed... Tina
  13. C'mon there has to come a time where the candlemaker is not at fault for someone elses stupidity especially burning in a closet or while driving. I am sure we have all heard of Mcdonalds getting sued because of hot coffee so maybe not. Wherever there is a lawyer there is a lawsuit Tina
