  1. I am interested in trying to mix my own blend using soy plus paraffin. Never having used any paraffin wax, I'm wondering if someone would give me a recommendation on what would be good to mix with KY Pure Soy. I do not use dye in my candles at the present time and would like to come up with a blend so that I can start a line of colored candles without the frosting problem. I know there are several pre-blended waxes but I just want to do my own. Thanks.

  2. fancy candle jars has those too you might want to check that out as well they are located in northern illinois if i remember right

I purchased some containers here and they were terrible - thin glass, hard to open, rough plastic on lids, etc. Don't want to hurt anyone's business but I got stuck with containers that I was afraid to use. They were willing to accept a return but shipping cost was prohibitive.

  3. Sure did not mean to confuse you. I test burn CD wicks starting with 8's all the way up to 20 but most times a CD 10 will work just fine, sometimes a 12 if the oil is heavy. This is 464 no additives. I just make a lot of testers to see what works with a lot of different wicks. I always start with 8's and make a lot of SM testers, burn them side by side to see which one I like the best.

Are you using one wick or two?

  4. Thank you! I will try this once I get a different pillar wax.

I LOVE the TC 50/50. If nothing else, I will use it for wickless for sure. I haven't gotten to far into testing wicked candles yet :undecided just 2 with "ok' results. But the wickless is really good! I made one scented bear claws....and OMG did it smell delicious!! The whole house smelled of cinnamon and bakery.

    MMMMmmmmmmm

    Thanks for the tip!!

I've used the TC 50/50 for wicked candles and the HT on everything I have tried is great! I have tried mixing it 50/50 with 464 but the HT was not good. I just wish it had a little more soy and still burned and looked the same.

  5. Which wicks work in this wax? I have only used HTP wicks and they do not work - lose hot throw midway through burn. We were told in another thread that self-centering wicks do not work in the 464 so if someone who is having success with the hot throw could give me a wick recommendation, I would really appreciate it. Thanks,

  6. I think you've still got way too much of a rim on that candle. If you go up to a larger size you will consume much more of the wax so that you can hug it and then it will continue to curl in on itself and burn down beautifully. As far as the torch is concerned, are you trimming the wick periodically?

Will somebody please tell me what hugging a pillar is? I have never made pillars but everytime I see that expression I wonder what it means. Thanks

  7. The KY Pure Soy is a great wax but I wanted something that I could pour hot. I'm relieved to know that the disappearing scent throw is not just my imagination.

I have tried the 464 with only 8% FO and have encountered the same problem. I am going to try mixing it with Taylored Concepts 50/50 and see what happens.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

  8. It takes about 3 and one half hours to reach a full melt pool. Maybe the Baby Powder has just taken over and I can't smell anything else. I'm not fond of Baby Powder but it certainly has a powerful hot throw.

I'm going to try heating to 190 and see what happens. Thanks.

I wonder what would happen if I added USA to this wax even though the 2% is the same type ingredient? Has anyone tried this?

  9. I would think that might be the case but right now I'm burning a candle made with KY Pure Soy and Baby Powder FO and it is almost at the bottom of the candle and the throw is great on that one. The 464 candle with Lemon Pound Cake has burned almost to the bottom of the container and I can't smell it at all and haven't been able to smell it for a while.

  10. I am heating wax to 170, adding dye and FO immediately. I stir dye then add FO and stir again. I then stir again before pouring at 130. I use 2 HTP 93's in a 10-oz apothecary jar. Have also tried one HTP 105 with same results. Thanks.

One other weird thing - it seems that the cold throw is not as good when candles are cured for any length of time. I have two Keepsake jars with Birthday Cake FO (very strong when first poured) that have cured for about a month and the cold throw is not good.

  11. This may be my imagination but the hot throw starts off great and as the candle burns it becomes almost nonexistent by the time it burns completely. This has happened with several different FO's. All candles heated to 170 degrees and poured at approximately 130 degrees - 10% FO. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

I would move this to the vegetable wax section but I don't know how. Sorry.

  13. Thanks all. I'm trying again leaving off the steric. I thought steric was supposed to be added to harden the wax - not even sure where that came from. If that doesn't work, I'll try heating to a lower temperature. Their web site only gives a pour temperature between 160 and 200 and doesn't mention how hot to heat it so I thought it probably needed to be heated higher than 200. It does take a lot of patience to let them set up. Thanks again.

  14. I'm using KY votive/pillar blend, 10% FO and just a little steric and I'm heating to about 215 and pouring at 160. The votives are splitting in half horizontallyand vertically. What am I doing wrong? I put them in the refrigerator for a little while before trying to take them out of the molds and they came out with no problem. Thanks for any advice.
