  1. I love soaper's choice (Columbus Foods)-- the price is great, the product is excellent.
  2. It would make a really pretty wedding favor, too! Do you ever make custom favors? I've had some good luck getting orders for those.
  3. I actually got to make two batches tonight. One is just a basic unscented bastille that was running very low on stock. The other is a remake of a chocolate/coffee soap I tried in the spring. I wasn't happy with the scent, so this time, I added more!! It's scented and colored with cocoa powder and ground coffee beans. that's it. looked just like chocolate pudding. Actually smelled decent at pour! I piped some plain white that I held out, on top- like whipped cream- and added "chocolate shavings" from a grated bar of the original attempt. Can't wait to unmold!! It's in the fridge now- trying to avoid gel. We'll see.
  4. I haven't ever had a batch with DOS, since 1992. I read about it quite often, so it seems like it's common, but I guess I've just been really really lucky?? I cure in a room with a dehumidifier. Wonder if that helps? Also, I don't use canola or grapeseed oil in my CP's (lovely for lotions, though), because I had heard they DOS more readily.
  5. my first batch was in 1992. The only time I've used any other "soap" to wash with is when we're away from home. I've even started bringing my soap with me to some places, cause it's just THAT much better!
  6. I like both CP and HP bubbles/lather. But, I love the texture of CP soaps. I haven't noticed that the lather is any different, except that the CP has to cure fully to get really good. 6-8 weeks or so..
  7. That would be really neat!!! I might even buy one!!
  8. oh that's very pretty. The color is bright, yet soothing. Nice job!
  9. sandalwood and ylang ylang.. mmmmm. anyone use pureology shampoo in the green bottle? I can get really close to that scent... yum.
  10. M&P base can be made by using HP process, and adding ethanol at gel stage.... plus an extra bit of glycerin, or my using your already made CP soap (hard cure is best). The process is similar to rebatching. You will melt down your grated soap, add ethanol slowly, stir stir stir. add glycerin. Eventually, you'll get an ethanol trace. Let it harden overnight. Remelt. Harden. Each time you remelt, it's getting rid of more water content. The color will be similar to a gelatin-- not totally colorless. But, it takes color well.
  11. the worst part about this bill is that it makes absolutely no distinction between those of us doing things right already, and the etsy sellers using "cucumber Essential oil." (which, if you didn't know it, doesn't exist). I refuse to stand by and watch us lose what we've worked so hard to build- our businesses!!! Blog blog blog blog blog-- http://opencongress.org has some good ones listed. Go to each one. Post a comment. Give the poster the support they need to keep blogging. People who are keeping this topic active and going are doing us all a favor. Thank them.
  12. Ok. so following the line of thought that if something is made, it isn't natural, then all humans are not natural. we don't naturally occur in nature. We need to be made. sorry. I just don't buy that line of thinking. In law, they apply a "reasonable" standard. Is it reasonable to think a candle made with only beeswax would be considered "natural" by a reasonable person? I think so. I think consumers expect a "natural" product to be made of natural things, rather than highly processed/lab created things. Take a poll. Ask people what natural means to them. If they want to burn earwax for a candle and call it natural, more power to them. Others may think a jar of beeswax with a wick in it is natural.
