MaryAnn, that is too cute! I know what you mean about having all boys (I have three as well). My neice would love it, I am sure (she is 3).

Thanks ,Robin, for the quick reply. I am just making sure I cover all my bases before I start this. I have one jar of lye that I bought. I will have to check at the feedmill to see if they will still have it before i get too addicted to this soap making thing!

When you look at Iodine and other qualities, do you look at individual or combined?
Also, when you use shortening, which do you use, cottonseed or soybean. I bought Crisco, but it has both.
Thanks,

I think it looks neat! What scent is it?

Thanks, e. That is good because I don't have room for another crock pot in my tiny house!

Thank you. I might just try a basic olive oil recipe, since that is so easy to find! I am working on an order and might get some more oils for later use!!!
I will also have to look for a second hand crock pot. Not sure which method I am going to use yet, but I will think about it. I hate waiting, so maybe HP is for me???

Looks nice! I have all the supplies to try my first batch out, I just have to get the guts up to do it!

Can someone tell me if this is a good recipe to start with? I got some beeswax this weekend at JoAnns (used a coupon) and it smells yummy all by itself. Can I use buttermilk in place of the water and do I have to adjust the lye or anything?
Also, if I want to do the HP method, can I use my normal crock pot and then use it again for food or should I find something else???

Very Eye catching. I would definitely stop and look at it!

This was from Soapnuts.
12 oz veg shortening
4 oz coconut oil
1 oz beeswax
1 cup distilled water
2 oz lye
1/8 cup (1 fluid ounce) honey
Would I be able to sub some milk for the water and add some oatmeal for an OMH soap?? If that would be too hard, I will just try this one for my first time!

well, i bought some lye and some coconut oil tonight to try mu hand at cp!! Not sure which recipe I am going to try first (a basic one at that, LOL), but I am anxious and apprehensive at the same time!!!
The only problem is, I don't know when I am going to have time to try it because we are going to camp this weekend and next week my 5 year old starts preschool. On the days he has schoo, I will be at my mom's sewing (my job, but at least I don't have to pay for childcare).
I didn't even want to think about CP when I first started reading about it on here, but now I think I might try it because you can do so much with it!

My, you have been busy (not just making soap either,LOL)! Those are all beautiful. I am almost tempted to try the CP soap, maybe when I have a little extra time (like that will happen with three kids 5 and under).
TFS,

Those are all really nice! I would be happy to receive any one of those candles!

Bittercreek has a great hot cocoa that is lotion safe. Smells yummy in lotion!

Those strawberry ones look good enough to eat!
Beautiful work. I was thinking of adding some embeds to the top of my candles, eventually!

That is really pretty!

I haven't started soaping yet because I wasn't sure if I could find lye around here, but I have found it several places, County Market (local grocery), and the feed mill. Haven't been too many other places to look for it, but at least I found it right here in town. I hope they don't get rid of it before I even start soaping!

I made this the other day and it got quite hard and not quite as easy to paint with. Would it hurt to add a bit more water to the gelatin to make it more of a liquid?? I am going to get some phenonip for another recipe and might try it in here as well.

I haven't gotten into soaping yet (except m and p), but I have found basic ingredients locally, so some day when the kids are gone (all 5 and under), I will try it!
I can't wait to see pics of it!

The soap is beautiful, but the scent is just awesome as well!!

Great soap! Once I get the candle thing and easy bath and body stuff down, I might try this!!

Is this a good starting recipe???

I think I finally got a handle on this percentage thing (math isn't my strong subjest, LOL).
Coconut 20%
Palm 20%
Soybean 20%
Canola 15%
Sesame 10%
Stearic Acid 10%
Cocoa Butter 5%
I just need to order some palm and get my cocoa butter and I can actually make some soap. I also need to pick up a martha mold next time I am in town.
