I want to get into soap making (CP) but dont have the money right now to purchase items. I have alot of candle stuff for sale on the classies board, here's the link:

Every set of candle making instructions I have ever read say "melt 1 lb of wax" or whatever, so I have always weighed and then melted.

Oh-MYo...I started off using the DB method and could never ever keep my wax at the right temp. I was constantly turning turning up the heat, turning down the heat, and when timing is everything in candlemaking, you really need to be able to keep your wax at the right temp consistently. A presto pot does this and that is why so many ppl favor them over the DB method. And the wax melts so much faster, which is nice too.

Since I couldnt get a better pic of mine, I can tell you its alot like Greymairs. The lines are very distinct and not straight...It has a rough texture and not alot of frost. Thought I would get more than that. I used 3 tbsp of stearic in 1 lb of 1343 but had to divide it up into 2 pots. Maybe I will up the stearic next time to 4 tbsp.

ha. Do you think it would be possible to get a bit more clear pic of it so that I can see the surface texture? I like the colors.

I tried several times to get a better pic and they still came out kind of blurry.

I will try, gimme a few mins and then check back!

Did the server crash for a few minutes? I got kicked out and then it kept telling me "page cannot be displayed"

Ok, I might be pouring the layers too soon. I have a tiny bit of movement under the skin..not much at all. I can tilt the mold from side to side and the skin doesnt come close to breaking.

I didnt turn my mold at all, just poured the 2nd layer in the position it was. Thinking on the 3rd layer, i might move it. Depends on how judyvega does it. I wanna see if mine can look like hers.

My mold felt really warm when I poured the 2nd layer. I hope this isnt going to ruin the rustic effect.

Im having the same problem with the refreshing. I already poured my next layer. The wax was jiggly underneath but when i tilted it, it didnt break.

Im with you Scented. I didnt tilt but now im thinking i should have. I will on the next layer.

ROFL @ 350. I accidentally splashed white wax on the side of the mold...how do i get it off without ruining it? I poured down the wick pin like you said but it still splashed. Im also using very large ladels...not 2 oz'ers like you.

160 now..its almost there...feel free to start, im not tryin to hold up class

I have a batch of wax that is still too hot, around 175. im tryin to let it cool...the other batch is at 150

Darn...i accidentally knocked out the plug on my presto and my wax got down to 125

Im going for a dark brown...i just wasnt sure if i would have problems when i burn it. Like the wick clogging

i used 1 full brown chip for 1/2 lb of wax...is that too much? guess i shoulda asked before i put it in the wax =(

Im getting ready to add my additives...gonna use 1lb 1343, 3 tbsp stearic and not sure if i need vybar
