  1. Also where could I gat small amouts of these ply wicks. The places I find sell them in large rolls.
  2. also Im looking at http://www.wicksunlimited.com/ Which one from there would you select thats where i got the rrd thing.
  3. http://www.angelfire.com/on3/shellandpaulsphoto/candle1.jpg would this be considered tunneling?
  4. Topofmurayhill are the RRD wicks good?
  5. well ill let you know how it works..Its an experiment after all.
  6. Aslo Is double wicking a good idead... Braiding two wicks together to make a larger one. Since I have to deal with the cheap wax for now I figured to use it to experiment. I did get a sample of LX wicks from one of the wick places(by sample I mean 200 pieces SHEESH thats a ton). However I seem to have more success with the cotton praided wicks for pillars then the LX wicks
  7. This is the link to the waxes I was looking at. For Pilars I was thinking the 132 MP point wax or should I do the 140?
  8. Im buying new wax online this time. Should I get a pillar blend wax or just plain all around parafin wax(suggested for pillars)
  9. Two pillars bot made of the same wax with the same wick one is colored and scented and it tunnels the other is just plain and it burns fine. What gives?
  10. I think I ma have stumbled on to something. Is it possible that the crappy yaley color chips which never compleatly disolve for me even at 190 could cause the wax to burn like trash. I just made a non colored pillar and it burns great. But the colored ones all tunnel is that possible?
  11. Im looking through the Candlewic website and I see lots of different waxes. like: 126 Melt Point Wax - 3032 132 Melt Point Wax - 3134 140 Melt Point Wax - 4144 What is the differance in the way they burn.. Also some of them state that additives should be added for optimum perfomance...What kind of additives? Also they have blends but dont mention what what is in the blend.. I just want to make pillars for now and containers that don't tunnel...
  12. http://www.wicksunlimited.com/ call these guys they will send you free samples of the type of wick catagory you want
  13. As per previous posts I used Yales(i think thats how you spell it) wax. It works fine for pilars but burns like crap in container that are the same size as the pillars with the same wicks. So the question is what mechanics are involved that would make this cheap wax bur better as a pillar then as a container? Question 2 what are the benefits of soy wax and is it better to just go that route for everything? and 3. can you mix parafin and soy to come up with some sort of blend or is it better to just buy the blends premade?
  14. I use Yaley wax that has no spacifications. I heard from some people that that wax is junk. Is that true. I did notice on the store bought candlesthe wax is softer. When I make a candle the wax is like stone.
  15. How does pourng temp affect the wax. These latest candles were poured at 170. The ones I had before that burned better were poured at 195. Could that cause this type of problem? I used the same wicks before.
  16. I have no idea what half these post talk about since they use abreviations when reffering to wicks and wax is there a place i can find out what all this stuff means? Also I made 2 container candles but the flame is tiny and dim. Plus the larger glass container candle is tunneling. Used the wick that my local store has marked as "extra large". Is there a way to soften wax? Where should I go to learn about wicks and buy supplies.
  17. I did trim the wick and it seemed to help I will try new candles at a lower temperature. Also what is Stearine I read a boock that rocomended adding it to pillar candles but I would have to raise the temp to 190 before it would disolve. Any opinions?
  18. Well the red candle that you saw in the picture leaked on one side Plus everyonce in a while the flame flickers and produces black smoke. Any suggestions?
  19. Im not sure that you guys can tell me this but where do you get supplies.. Forexample if I wanted to add glitter to a candle without making it a fire hazzard ore this Vybar 343. None of the craft stores here in michigan cary this type of stuff.
  20. Here is the photo. I usually pour the wax from the double bouler int a pouring pitcher.. Could the pitcher be cooling it too much. I dont know the name of the wax but the melting point is 148 and I got it from Michels craft store. Anyway here is the photo. http://www.angelfire.com/on3/shellandpaulsphoto/Stuff/candle.jpg
  21. I will post a photo tomorrow its getting a little late here. Other than red Dye I did not ad any other thing to the wax. I do not tap the mold and I do pour it in fairly quickly. But is 195 a goo enough temp?
  22. :(Im making pillar candles with an aluminum mold and parafin wax. I just started making these but every time I get these little bubbles in the surface instead of a nice smooth surface.. I heat the wax to 195 then pour into the pouring pot and then into the mold. What could cause this?
