1. Yea that sounds great Maybe you could make Apple Cobbler Delight Chunks and over pour with Carmel Dip, just a thought. Carryl
2. Yep same here,So proud of our Saints. Who Dat said they were going to beat them Saits...... Still cant smell a thing, never had anything like this before ,just seems to linger and linger.Arggg want to test burn my candles for HT, Well they should be good and cured by the time I test them Ha Ha
3. Yes Stella you are correct it was pretty cold that day. I too can seem to get rid of this dreaded head cold, still cant smell a thing, How we take our senses for granted.Hope you get to feeling better soon.I'm so ready for the Super Bowl. Like my 2 yr old grandaughter says GO SAINTS!!!!!!!!! I'm a Who Dat fan too.
4. Circle , By the time I poured the wax to my pour pitcher it dropped so fast on me ,and when I looked at the temp it was 130 so I poured. I have since been some good tips about placing my pour pot on a griddle to keep it warm until I'm reday to pour. havent got around to it,been under teh weather with a head cold Argggg.Hopefully I will fill better soon so I can start my testing again.
5. Stella , I do remember you telling me to keep both on hand Cajun candles only has CD 14 on up , Its a bummer because they are so close to me.And of all times to get a darn head cold, just when I start testing candles and cant smell a darn thing,Again thanks so much
6. Thaks Top , I will try that , Gonna order some smaller CD the smallest Cajun Candles has is CD 14 and they are only 1 hr from me to bad they dont carry the smaller sizes.
7. Scent Cellar I did check with them but teh smallest they sell is a CDN 12 Thanks
8. I ordered a sample pack from Just By Nature and you might know the only wick missing is the CDN 10, this is the next size wick I wanted to tset in my 8 oz jelly jar.Argggggggggg....And the smallest size CD from Cajun Candles is CD 14 I will test it to see how it Burns, but I have read so many good Reviews with CDN and C3 wax... Oh well I will just have to wait on testing until the CDN 10 comes in.I did call Just By Nature and they took my name down and siad they would send them as soon as they came in. I have check the Scented bean they are ouit of stock also, must be used quite a bit. Thanks for listening
9. Stella , I trimmed the wick with a wick trimmer that I used on my paraffin candles to 1/4. The flame does seem better on my 3 Round of Burn time. It still has not reached a full melt pool ,which is fine if I get a great scent throw with the one I poured yesterday, I like the wax so far but I know it is still early.... The tops are smooth after the candle cools. I do make sure the wick is centered before each burn. Thanks so much for your input:) The cold throw in the one I poured yesterday is awesome I hope the hot throw is as well.
10. I used C3 wax, No FO, CDN 8, wick in 8 oz Jelly Jar, heated Wax to 160 poured at 130 in unwarmed jars. After 1 hr Burn time After 2 hr Burn Time After 2 1/2 Burn time I find the flame is to high maybe someone can chime in . I put the candle out let it get solid again and did second Burn Results This at the 2 1/2 hr burn time This what the wick looks like after the second burn, Trimmed after each burn
11. Top, That is great advice and that is exactly what i am doing , I started with CDN 8 wick in 8 0z jelly with plain C3 ,no Fo just did my first test burn, will post results in a bit. I poured a sceond candle yesterday with Peaks FO CDN 8 wick I will not pour anymore until I get the full results of the test burns,Because to me this is a waste of time and money to proceed before the end result I am in no hurry. If the CDN 8 works well with Full melt pool ,good flame, Good scent throw until the end of the burn ,I will rate in on 1 to 10 in all areas. Then I will pour the same FO with a CD 14 per Cajun Candles and record results. Then Sticking with same FO I may add some coconut oil and same wick combos and see if this improves the candle and then next round add USA same FO .That is just me I dont like jumping around scent to scent until I'm satisfied. Then once I decide on wick and FO I will do power burns. I used to make Paraffin Candles but this is really different wax But I like a challange Thanks for the help and advice
12. Stella. I dont blame you I wouldn't get out in this either. We have spray foam insulation in our house, it acts like a big Ice Chest. It stays about 69 or 70 without any heat or air, but me I'm freezing at 72 LOL. My family is always laughing at me, but I cant stand to be cold!!!!!!!!!!!! BRrrrrrrrrrrrr. Ok I just looked at the candle so far the wet spots are very minima.l But I did cover it with a towel last night so I uncovered it to see what it will do in this temp. I will test a few at a time. The one I poured yesterday was poured at 130 with CDN 8 . Just had to get the feel of it again, get my cajun feet wet so to speak LOL. Seriously thanks so much for your advice. My USA will be coming in Monday gonna play big time with all the goodies...... Your gumbo sounds great by the way, Bundle up good hun because hubby and my Son just came in and siad it is blowing like crazy out there, Well this little Cajun dont need to go out for nothin that bad Haha May God Bless You and your Family
13. Stella. Yes I did poke holes and then hit with a heat gun. After all of the reading I forgot to put it on a rack to cool, also didnt heat the jar. I will try heating the jar next time and will put on a rack to cool. Yes it was pretty exciting pouring candles again, but this is all together different than paraffin. Was kinda like a chicken with my head cut off for a few minutes even though I had everything right there, Just have to get back in teh swing of things , but will not rush this process. Thanks for letting me know to wait 48 hrs , that is the hard part, but I value your opinion. Yea the wick holder was ok but I had to adjsut the wick after I used the heat gun . It was centered as the wax was cooling but I see what you mean , the wick shifted one the sink hole was formed. I only heated the wax to 160 because I was adding the FO but maybe I poured to low of temp will Pour a little hotter next time. Will waiy until I get UV to pour more test candles not sure if this makes a difference in burn . So I should only put the amount of wax in the presto that I will use for that test Jar . I was afraid that reheating the wax may damage it. Thanks again Stella. Making Shrimp Gumbo toamrrow want some LOL this Darn cold weather, gotta have soem warm Gumbo.
14. Ok I heated the wax to 165 and poured at 130 ,Placed jar on cabinet to cool. Ok some Cajun Engineering, I didnt have any wick centering gadgets, they are coming in, So I made do with two straws and clothes Pins, LOL. Once it was cooled I had a hole on the side of the wick , took the heat gun and got rid of that . So far the wax looks amazing no wet spots yet, will see in the morning .Room Temp was 70 when I poured. Going to test burn in the morning will post Pics.Used a CDN 8 Ok another Question I have extra wax in my Presto and it is solid will it hurt the wax when I reheat it for my next test candle. Thanks
15. Whew!!!! You gals know your stuff about C3 .Man this is way over my head.... Guess I should have read up more on this product. Oh well this little Cajun girl is going to work real hard to make a decent first candle...LOL Next lesson will be Tempering the wax Ha Ha. God Bless you all
16. Wow I didnt realize C3 alraedy has USA added. Thanks guys for your input. I would like to make dye free soy candles. But I know some like color. Later I will practice with color.
17. Stella I thought I read on the forum that most use USA for apperance, So I will try adding FO first. What is USA used for newbie to soy. Yes a lot of testing but that is the only way to make the best and safest candle possiable. Thanks for your input ....
18. Just got my Nature wax C3 Jelly Jars, CD and CDN wicks and Scale, just waiting on USA and wick stickems from The Candlemakers Store, will be here tomarrow . Yepeeeeeeeee Will pour my first Soy candle this weekend. Also got samples of FO from Peaks and Cajun Candles to start. This is my plan Pour straight C3 NO FO Dye or additives, just going to see how the wick and wax burn in the jelly jar recording each burn pool and will take pictures..Then I will add USA see if that size wick still burns well with the wax and additive combo , then I will move on with FO. Then I will have a starting point that I can wick up or down according to FO. This is how I did it when I made Paraffin Candles, but it has been 5 yrs since making a candle, wish me luck. I forgot how much fun this can be, just hope I dont pull all of my hair out.LOL GOD Bless all candle makers.... Carryl
19. Stella you put it best. Thanks for all the advice.I will start out testing one step at a time , Straight C3 then take it from there.
20. Thanks I will test nature wax 3 and decide for my self... Carryl
21. WAX: The formula is a proprietary blend of very expensive, fully refined quality waxes and scientifically developed additives. The formula was developed to enable the wax to "layer" the fragrance oil in a new way. candles does not use soy wax because of the odor that is difficult to mask and because soy does not have the ability to "throw" (meaning flood) the fragrance in a room. Soy does burn somewhat cleaner, but will not hold more than 8% fragrance oil. The #1 reason consumers buy candles today is for FRAGRANCE Stella maybe you can chime in on this Ok I have purchased candles from this company before, I dont want to say they are over priced because they do have a good product, But I purchased a candle with a soy blend from someone on this board for half the cost of this big company and her candle filled my Kitchen and living room up in about 30 minutes. And she said she uses 6006 with a soy blend. Ok this is where the confusion comes in I thought we all had access to the same wax and what is this formula that enables wax to layer the frarance in a new way. I made paraffin candles in the past and I learned that you had to stir your FO for at least 2 full minutes and give it a good stir again before pouring so that the FO was distributed in the wax, so is this what they call layering? And then they are putting down Soy wax becuase it has a odor you cant rid of and doesnt throw well.Is this true? My candles that I made before had an awesome hot throw, But I worked long and hard Blending my own formula and testing each FO. I'm willing to do the testing but if Soy does not throw as well as My Blend , My friends and family will be dissappointed. Wanting to get started in a couple of weeks so any advice is greatly apperciated. Thanks Carryl
22. Thanks for the Info.Bookmarked both.Stella Thanks for reminding me to use the search engine....... Thanks Carryl
