  1. So sorry that happened to you, but I am more inclined to blame the USPS. They damage so many packages. I am in no way affiliated with peak but have always had really good product and service from them in 5 years worth of dealing with suppliers. I just wish they were closer so shipping was cheaper. I hope you get your stuff soon.
  2. Thanks David! Food for thought. It's more because I am a spaz, actually...lol. It's like a crooked wall hanging. Drives me a little insane. I dont sell candles yet (I'm a soaper) but still messing with learning it all. I am noticing on other candle websites that, you're right, most people aren't really sweating it. Interesting.
  3. GENIUS!! Thanks so much! I knew there had to be a trick.....
  4. I just like a more polished looking top and my skills aren't that great...lol.
  5. I'm sure the answer for this problem is super obvious and I am completely missing it, but I made a 9x4 inch pillar last night that came out nice, but I accidentally pulled the wick halfway out. :embarasse I'm using floppy cotton ply wicking so....uh.....how do I thread the wick back through? Is there a trick? Thanks!
  6. Thank you! I'll check them out....
  7. Does anyone sell votive molds that are "upside down" like pillar molds? You know...the bottom is the top of the candle? Thanks!
  8. I did better on the second try. Now I can do mottles too! Thanks for all the great help!
  9. Thanks guys! I'm gonna give it another try and pour cooler next time and use your suggestions. So this is a mottle huh? LOL! Who knew?!
  10. I have only made container candles and tarts up to now, and tried to make a "rustic" pillar last night. I don't hate the results (they are just for me) but clearly this is not how it's supposed to go. I used 1343 wax with 3 TBS of stearic per pound. To me, it looks like the stearic didn't melt sufficiently or something. Heated to almost 190 and poured at 180 into a chilled mold. Also the layer of wax that I poured to top off didn't stick and peeled right off the bottom of the candle. My guess, is I waited too long or didn't pour it hot enough. So, experienced, awesome chandlers.....what'd I do wrong? TIA http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt314/LoriJ/rustic.jpg' alt='rustic.jpg'>
  11. Awesome information! I really appreciate hearing this and will definitely look into his products!
  12. I keep trying to get the free sample of that wax (3022) and I never get it.
  13. I'll try anything at this point. I do want paraffin waxes though. I've gone the soy route already. I can't get a knock your socks off throw so far. Maddening. My goal in life is to sneak into Carol's (Candles from the keeping room) house, under cover of night, and steal her tart wax. Or at least peer leacherously at the label on her wax so I know what it is LOL!. She has exactly what I'm looking for. Her tarts are kinda transluscent-y (paraffin) and they just rock. Good on her.
  14. I just got this wax in to test, and it's horrible to me. No scent throw. I got the "pellet" version. Followed the manufacturer directions to the T. Not impressed. Time to set more money on fire testing more paraffin waxes. Ugh.
  15. Oh I love it too!! Gorgeous candle and box. I just love a box...lol
  16. Yes...Ive tried the jar store. Also those chromes are the ones I already have. Lol. Insane shipping prices. Thanks. Cant seem to find another supplier.
  17. I'm looking for a suppliy site that carries more than the run-of-the-mill containers for candles, specifically chrome or matte black tumblers or jars. I've used the ones from candlemakingsupplies.net but shipping is too costly. That's the feel I'm after though. I'm also open to other ones that are more unusual than typical jars. I'd love some suggestions. Thanks in advance.
  18. Oh! Sorry.....noob, see? LOL! This is the 2nd burn. I burned for three hours yesterday. Maybe an hour into the burn today. Thank you!
  19. Hi all! I'm Lori..... Experienced soapmaker but total candle noob. I am so enjoying trying out candlemaking and soaking up all the knowledge here! I have a few questions, I hope someone can help me with. At the moment, I am trying out the IGI 4627 wax and making "dessert candles" with whipped wax tops. (I know, I know....walk before I crawl, much?!) They are just for home and I'm not trying to sell or anything. I made three in those smallish "status" jars from dollar tree - 3 inches across maybe. I have read that this wax needs wicking up and I used what, to me, seems like a huge wick (HTP- 1212) in a Clementine Cupcake FO candle. All seems to be going well from the little info I have to go on. Not too hot, no smoking, no flickering flame, good throw etc. Here are my questions: 1.) The melt pool isnt quite all the way to the edge - almost, but maybe 1/4 inch away. I have heard HTP wicks are recommended so...what gives? Any ideas? I think there's only one bigger sized wick in the HTP series, right? 2.) Can you decorate whipped wax with regular sugar sprinkles? I did that and they dont seem to be hurting anything except that the wax pool seems to be a little bubbly, and I'm guessing that the sugar is doing that, so I'm wondering it they can clog a wick? How do you guys make whipped wax all decorated and cute? 3.) Do I need a harder wax for whipped tops? This wax doesnt ever seem to get rock hard and if it sticks up over the edge of the candle, I'm guessing it would smoosh if I ever DID sell and ship someday. What's the skinny on whipped wax? Thank so much for any information you can help me with. You guys make beautiful candles! :smiley2:
