  1. Of course you can't get the bulk prices when you want it in individual bottles, that kind of defeats the cost savings. I buy my own 16 & 8 oz. PET bottles and rebottle all the time. That way I can get the discounted bulk price with the ease of smaller bottles, a win in my book!! CS has great customer service!! :cool2:

I am glad to hear you have had "great customer service" - your re bottle suggestion still wouldn't solve the problem to the issue I had with their jug. Thanks anyway;)

  2. I LOVE their oils, but I have to admit, their customer service leaves something to be desired. I called with a pouring issue in their 5lb jug. I noticed that when I get down to the last 7-10 oz and pour the oil, it leaks everywhere and runs down my arm, makes a mess on the floor, etc. I cannot afford to waste oil. They were not very receptive of the constructive criticism. They commented that their customers actually prefer this container. This current jug looks like a laundry detergent jug. I asked if I could buy the same 5lbs in the 16 oz bottles, (at the 5lb pricing) and they wouldn't allow me to do that. I was very disappointed and have even started looking into trying to buy the pumpkin soufflé from another dealer.

  3. Welcome to candlemaking! I love it. It started out as a hobby for me and then quickly started to take a business route! This past christmas was our second christmas that we have been in business and we finally got out of debt to the candle business. The business now supports itself, and we have a little extra even. I think that if we paid ourselves and deducted the electric and some other expenses it would be questionable if we "made money" but it is still a hobby too, and since I love to make them, I havent counted every single cost. I am sure that too, will change in time. So, moral of the story, lol, it does take time and lots of $$$$ . I found some really good deals on craigslist when I was just getting started, ppl were selling out LOTS of candlemaking stuff, you may want to check there for good deals on supplies, etc to save some $$. Good luck and have fun w/ it. It will all come together in time:)

  4. I LOVE this board!!! Everyone was so helpful in giving me tips along the way and I did LOTS of reading and posting at first, but now I am sooo busy w/ our candles and my other job and being a mom,etc etc, Im not on here as much:(. I used to work 7p-7a and get on here during our slow hrs but now i work 3p-3a and there arent any "slow" hrs on that shift!. Thank you to everyone one that keeps this board going and all the users, you are so very much appreciated:)

  5. HI, I started out using eco 10 in my JJ but for some scents they burnt to fast and others they didnt seem to get hot enough to get complete melt pool. SOOOOO I have been working w/ the htps now and they seem to be JUST the balance that I was looking for. The htp 105 does great w/ the spicier scents and on the other hand doesnt seem to burn up the other easier wicked scents. I can also wick down to 104 on easier scents, like blueberry for example. Hope that helps and have fun w/ candle making!! Mine started out as hobby, and this year we are going to make it an actual busines. funny how things change. you can read back on my old posts and see where I have even commented about just being a hobby!! Have a merry christmas!

  6. I have only done one show this year, I only do it b/c I used to work there and they do it as a fundraiser. Anyway, after reading all this I think this is something that I would like to get into more!! Is there a site listing local craft shows and any other info that goes along w/ that?? I have searched online, and found some, but no big hits on a free listing. Thanks. Glad to hear shows went so well for everyone

  7. Looks great!!! I have been wanting to try some CP soap, I just havent had time yet. Hopefully after christmas I can. I like the silk med. tape you used to secure wax paper:) I have had to wrap christmas gifts w/ med tape b/c I ran out of scotch tape

  8. Wow, what a great post to read!!! I have been thinking about my pricing and after reading this I think I am even more confused!! LOL. We have been throwing around the idea of opening a retail store, very small and conservative. I have been scouting local competion, there isnt much, but also wondering if i needed to raise my prices now before I get into "business". But, then I am also thinking about getting some wholesale accts, and wonder how that would work. I think I should either get my own store or do wholesale accts, probably not both... I went to a festival today and saw the 8 oz jelly jars priced from $3.50 to $5, per jar. I charge $6 each or 4/$20 for mine, but I did notice that I have more money in my labels than those suppliers did. They didnt even have warning labels on them!! I have estimated that I have around 1.65 in each 8 oz jelly jar (6 oz fill). Thats great that you can sell your 10 oz jars for $5 and make money on them! I think next year we are also going to try to do some street fairs/festivals.
