  1. My best friend wanted to make candles and as angry and disrespected as I felt at the time I showed her, she bought her supplies and came over and we made candles together. I wasn't going to give her false information or tell her to research it herself..I just showed her everything I do and gave her all the info she needed...she made her candles with my equipment but her supplies and she hasn't done it since. I felt angry and hurt at first but I believe in Karma.

I believe by telling people to research themselves like you did and giving them info on bad suppliers and most expensive suppliers is going to fall back on you. Candle making is a form of art...if all the great musicians refused to give people tips on how to play then music would practically disappear. Yeah it may be your business but you dont have to tell your exact solution and you dont have to be rude about it either. You can explain to them about this board, that there are many wax, wicks and fo combinations and not everyone who wants info on how to make candles is going to rush out and start a business. Even without testing and a ton of supplies just the cost of starting up a biz is much more than what most people can afford. Especially if they are looking to start right away. If you have a good quality product then why should you feel so threatened with a little competition?

You could also turn it into a positive by giving them lessons...for a fee of course. They also might be able to help you up your production, especially those with wholesale accounts. Most businessess start out as a mom and pop shop and then as they acquire more employees get bigger and turn more profit. This of course is just my :2cents:

  2. Man, those are awesome. I wish I could do something other than m&p but I am just too afraid. I have 4 kids and I can totally be a klutz. I have my 7 yr old daughter in my workshop and she helps me with a few things, I wouldn't take a chance of her being in the workshop with me and something bad happening. One day though......I'm going to make soap like that one day

  3. All you have to do to make your own is purchase your wicks and tabs then dip the wick in your wax after it melts but before you add anything like color, fo etc to it. You might have to do a few coats..coat it/ let it cool then coat it again. However for me it is sooo much easier to buy them pre tabbed and they really don't cost more when you take into consideration you have to purchase the wicks, tabs and then also use the wax to coat them and the time it takes to do that.

  4. I bought from her one time about a year and a half ago. Took almost a month to get here. I got an email that the items were shipped about 3 days after my order, I emailed several times and got no response and finally over 3 weeks after I ordered they got here. No explanation...nothing. Never ordered from there again.

  5. Well I am finishing some gift baskets for family. My MIL gets Ocean, FIL Cinnamon and bro-in laws girlfriends Moonlight Path. Each basket has 2 bars soap/ 6 bath bombs/ jar of scented and colored dead sea salts/ 8 tarts/ 9 oz soy container candles/ anti-bacterial hand soap/ body spray. Last year I made over 70 pillars for family members so this year I decided they were all going to get containers, they are so much easier and faster, I just don't have the time to make 70 pillars.

  6. I have had a problem free and flawless transactions with Peak. I especially love the free oz of FO they throw in. They also throw in different things like pens and stuff like that which I think is cool.

I don't think this thread is embarrassing or stupid, sometimes it is good to get other opinions on CS....Some things are a no brainer but it is good to hear tips that other people use in their CS that might not occur to some people. Just because you've been in business for years doesn't mean you know everything about good CS, I can't tell you how many times I have been to big companies where you'd think the first thing they train their workers on is good CS but only to have been treated unfairly and like sh*t.

  7. Welcome.

I have 4 kids and have never had any issues with my candles blowing up. If you follow instructions then you shouldn't be concerned about your candles blowing up or anything like that. If you do your research and take precautions then you'll be just fine...It really isn't as hard as alot of people say IMO. It can be frustrating at times especially when you first start and nothing is working like you want but in time and with practice it gets easier. It did for me anyway. I think a starter kit is the best way to go.

    HTH

  8. I agree with Kaybee on the refill kit. Giving people wax and saying "heat this in the microwave" is asking for a disaster. Generally people who don't make candles don't even burn them properly....so most likely wouldn't heat wax in a microwave with any precautions.

As far as refilling the jars for them. I have only done that for testing but have never refilled a used jar for anyone other than myself...not even for friends to test.
