I made a batch of soap on Sunday. I split the batch and colored each half with micas. When I took it out of the mold I noticed that the bottom half was very moist, the top the soap had a few droplets of moisture.

I have let the soap sit out for a few days now and the bottom layer feels like playdough, it is that soft and plyable. The top half is hard. I thought that after 3 days it would harden but it has not.

Has this ever happened to any of you?

I have been wondering what is the purpose of using cream of tartar? Can you just sub it for corn starch?

I have had the same problem. A friend suggested trying the oil soluble TD from TKB trading and I have not had the problem since I switched from water to oil soluble TD.

OMG - someone actually sold soap with breast milk in it?

I have a few more questions now, how does it stay in place when you add the next layer? Do you just spoon it on very carefully? Does it need to be done at a thick trace?

I see a lot of soaps that have a think black line between colors in CP soaps. What exactly is that, is it mica powder sprinkled between layers or an extremely thin layer of black soap?

I boil it with my water.

Is it better to not gel or does it matter with coconut milk?

For coconut milk do you use the refrigerated kind or the canned? Which is better or are they the same?

I have been looking at ingredients in lotion bases and some of them say "Goats Milk Extract", what exactly is goats milk extract? Is this something you can buy?

Salt bars on my list of things to try. I have those molds but never thought to put them in the oven, I thought they would melt since they are thin plastic.

I recently had the same thing happen. I got a new Kelsi mold, which I love, decided to put in the oven for an hour on lowest setting then turned off the oven and just let it stay in there overnight.

The next morning the top of it looked like aligator skin, when I took it out of the mold, there were parts that looked like clear glycerin soap as an outer layer. It was very strange. Sorry, don't have a picture to share because I trashed them.

I am glad to know that it was probably due to overheating, I didn't think of that. My question is does overheating ruin the soap or just ruin the appearance?

I use an 8oz cup and only attach 1 of the beaters to my hand mixer and that works for me.
