  1. Hi there! I agree with Sabrina. Maybe try a new wick. CD's work great in soy. Eco's may be another option. Also, you may have done so in another thread, but let us know what fragrances you are using. Not all fragrances will work in that wax. Check for reviews on FO that works well in your wax. At least start with those fragrances first. You can experiment with ones that are unknown to work later. And stick to the 6-8% rule on how much fragrance to use. Too much can have a negative effect. Don't change waxes just yet. It will confuse you even more...palm and paraffin are completely different and no less difficult to learn. It will just start you all over again. Good luck and keep reading and asking questions. BTW-CD wicks are available at many suppliers. Check around. And make sure you get a variety of sizes. Soy will take the larger sizes. For a Jelly Jar I would get CD 10, 12 , and 14 at least.

  2. I am currently working with J223 mixed with 10% soy to help level the tops...which works well. I am using CD wicks in the square masons. I am getting soot with a CD 10, but not a full melt pool after 3 burns. I originally started with a CD 12 and got a wicked throw, but was obviously too large. I had a deep melt pool. I love the wax and the HT, but I am not familiar with paraffin wax too much. Any suggestions on wicking to minimize the soot?

  3. Thanks to all of you, also! I ordered 13 samples from NG. I haven't ordered from there in several years. Don't know why, but I am now hooked on several. Just OOB, but I can't wait to get these in wax.

Seaside Cotton-This is really nice. I hate floral types, but this smells clean and fresh though the flowers are very noticable.

Mrs Claus Cookies-I got it because everyone says it smells like VBN. Well it does and I love it. Possibly the wrong time of year, but oh well. I can rename it.

Orange Juice Cake-This smells dreamy! I smell the cake and the orange and also a whipped cream notion

Butt Naked- I love this one. Very fruity and great for summer.

Cucumber Canteloupe- I got this one because I need a melon in my line and this will do the trick nicely.

I also got Caribbean and Clean Breeze because these are the ones I used to buy long ago. They sold well for me then.

The Coconut Cream Pie smells very similar to KY which I love, so if it goes good in wax that will be great. Some of the others I have to wait until they are in wax because I havent decided on them yet. I will update on all of them after I test them.

  4. Dana, I noticed that about the samples. I don't see why you can't just choose the ones you want. I have not tried either version yet, so I don't know. There is such a little amount of preservative usually, so I don't know if it would be enough to make a difference.

  5. My sister wears Lovespell and I have always used BCN's for her. She loves it, but I think it may be more expensive than some of the other suppliers, if I remember right. I was wanting to try it from somewhere else and see what she says.

  6. SYR-The satsuma isn't on the site because of the flashpoint. I don't think she can ship it. Check with her on that one. I have a sample but never tried it in wax. I am going to have to get some soap from you in some of those fruity scents. Those are the ones I go for. In the summer I like to smell like a big fruit salad. Are you going to May Mart? If so, make sure you have that cola lip balm for me. Yum, yum!

  7. I have been playing with container palm from Candlewic for several weeks now and I like it, but I like the look I am seeing from other people's Glass Glow. Is there a difference in the appearance of these waxes or is it just a cooling technique that makes it look so pretty? I am cooling mine in a warm oven and I get a pretty crystally pattern, but not those big pretty swirls like I see in the Glass Glow pictures. Does this wax make a different pattern? I am curious if it is worth me ordering, or if it will look the same. TIA

  8. Hello Miss Rose! Yes, I need to take a trip over there soon. I am so busy with candle testing, it's been hard to get anything else done. I will try to put in an order too. Now that I moved, I am even closer to Connie than I was before. Definately a move in the right direction. Now I just need her to carry some new waxes and I will be all hooked up. lol I have smelled the Thumbprint Cookies, but have yet to get it in wax. It smells good though! My other recommendations are Gingerbread Latte and Strawberry Jam.

  9. Did anyone check out the new fragrances at Backwoods? I may have to try since they are only 5 miles from me! They also got new M&P bases and they are having one of those things that we are not allowed to mention here. hint, hint. lol Check it out. I want the Blackberry Lemonade, Lemon Blush, Orange Mochachino, and Tamarind & Ginger.

  10. To answer your question, the candles that you already burned can still cure. Just give them a few more days and relight them. It should work fine. They will keep getting stronger as the days go by. Also, I think that you will have a bit more luck if you pour the soy a little bit cooler. If you poured at 160 it may have been a bit too warm and won't set up as nice, especially with dyes being used. I don't use c-3 so I don't know if that can be poured warmer or not. HTH

  11. Stella- Your candles are beautiful. I did not mean that c-3 was a bad wax...I just did not care for it. It is just a matter of opinion. You obviously had the patience to work with it and turned it in to something beautiful. I would rather go with 415 straight myself, because I understand the properties and characteristics of that wax better. I have worked with it more. The c3 was a headache for me. I know that a lot of people use and love it. I am impressed with your final product and I am not trying to bash your wax, by any means. I just have my preferences.

Adding the paraffin allows me to dye my candles a little darker and pour them a little warmer, without the fear of frost. I also have to store my candles in a cool environment and a pure soy candle would frost all over the place in those conditions. I just have to make them work in my situation. I can't baby my candles. I just don't have the space for it.

  12. Hi Stella. To answer your questions...because I am lazy. lol:laugh2:But seriously, I worked with pure soy for the first 4 years of my candlemaking career. I used the Ecosoya Pure Soy until it was discontinued. Then I came across a parasoy blend and I really liked having the best of both worlds with that wax. Then it was discontinued also. I tried the C-3 and, no offense to anyone, I hated it. It made an ugly candle, even compared to the Pure Soy. Mostly, it looked bad after being burned, and that is what I want to remedy with the addition of the paraffin. I have never tried the 464, so I can't comment on that, but the 70/30 blend is working good for me and it is still a high percentage of soy, so I like it. I also am liking the palm wax too, though it is more work, it yields great results. I may end up offering both to my customers.

I am glad that you commented on the shape of the containers, though because I agree that the square masons allow for more soot build up at the rim. I asked this questions to others who didn't seem to think so, but it is a hard to wick jar. Too bad my customers love that jar!!

  13. Hi Naomi! I am testing the 415/J223 blend with CO and it is working out pretty well. I am not having soot problems at all. I'm using the CD wicks. I don't really know if the CO improves the scent throw or not, but it got rid of the cracking. The scent throw has been great for most scents. I have a couple that aren't as impressive, but that is always true with soy wax. I will just look for new oils to replace those. I have a few curing now. I have been waiting for 5 days to test the throw. All of my CS fragrances work great with this blend and most of my other favorites. My Sugar Cookie is the poorest throw so far, but that can be replaced if I need to. Best thing is that I have not seen any soot at all. Very, very clean. I love that!!! It comes out with a few wet spots, but eventually pulls away from the jar enough to look great!

While I am waiting for those to cure, I am playing with some palm wax that I have had for a while. Thought it might be fun and will help me with the wait. (palm container from Candlewic)
