  1. I just got all my ingredience orders in yesterday, I'm going to make bath bombs today but I'm going to use a non-vanilla FO that I've had for a while just to experiment with the recipe (Berry Wine...Brambleberry). I'm saving my vanilla based FO till I'm happy with the bomb recipe I choose (or tweak). I shall post when I do the Pink Sugar bombs.
  2. I may just do that, I've read their scents are great! I was going to try WSP Warm Vanilla Sugar at 19% vanilla that should be a great test...*snicker* While I'm picking brains, if I was to make up a bath bomb with a heavy vanilla scent and did a mixed bomb with say Warm Vanilla Sugar (and let it turn brown) on one side of the mold and an unscented but colored (say blue for illustrative purposes) other side of the mold, would the brown migrate to the unscented but colored side and I'd have a half brown half blue with brown blotches bomb?
  3. It seems like EVERY FO that I love has vanillin (the browning culpret) in it! My next order to WSP is in 2 weeks I'll get it then and let you know....I'm ordering both types of "preventor" to compare how they work side by side, I'm also going to get one of the FO with the highest concentration of vanillin just to make sure it can handle the "big guns"...hehe!
  4. I've been doing more reading on this and I MAY have found a solution, WSP carries Vanilla browing neutralizer and Vanilla color stabilizer. You mix them with your FO that contains vanilla (It's mind boggling how many actually have vanilla in them!) and it keeps the browning at bay. From their write up on both products they stink like rotten eggs and must be used in a very well ventalated area, they say the smell disappears within 24 hours and you can't smell it in the finished product. We shall see!!! I'm going the experiment with both.
  5. I've done a bunch of reading on how vanilla containing FOs can turn solid bubble bars brown, I was wondering if the same thing happens to bath bombs when a FO containing vanilla is used. I want to tweak my FO choices (I want to concentrate on solid bubble bars and bath bombs) if the same thing happens to bath bombs. Thanks for any help... Becky
  6. We had Print Shop a good 10 years ago and I loved it, but I never made labels with it, just futzed around with it, making what would today be considered ancient looking cards for my family. I'll do a search on amazon and see what the reviews say.
  7. DeAnna, have you tried their low sweat bases? If yes, how were they?
  8. I wanted to get Print Master 18 Platinum, but I've read some have issues with it not running on Internet Explorer 7 which is what I have... Any other suggestions? I'd like to use the Avery labels, if that matters. Thanks, Becky
  9. SYR, Don't worry about offending me by suggesting I "search for it", I love researching (especially about something I'm passionate about).
  10. Elfcat, I was planning on buying some of the low sweat white and clear from BrambleBerry....can I ask why you didn't like it (you may save me some $$!).
  11. True, true...so many things to keep in mind...Maybe I'll have a whole nutless line as a friend of mine has a daughter who is allergic to nuts.
  12. Smacky, I'll give my mixer a try when the time comes, it's a pretty good one so hopefully it will suffice. I've priced the Kitchen Aid ones and Yikes! But from what I hear they're great mixers! Beekeeper, That's an excellent idea! I'll definately keep that in mind when perusing recipes. I have noticed there seems to be 3 must haves (cocoa butter, shea butter and sweet almond oil), you can never go wrong purchasing them. ~Becky~
  13. Thank you all for the replys, I'm going to keep it below $75.00 to begin with , just getting basic supplies. I've decided to start with Bath Bombs and Bubble Bars, that should keep me busy for quite awhile. When I get into Body Butters (whipped and otherwise) will my basic stand mixer be okay even though it's Not a KitchenAid? It dosn't have the whisk type attachment that some of the recipes reccomend, just the 2 beaters. Should I invest in one or is it not necessary? Again, thank you for all the help! Becky
  14. I think maybe I should concentrate on the "trickiest" first and that seems to be bath bombs, it also seems to be one of the least expensive to start with. It would certainly stop the head spinning with all the "I want to do that's!" to concentrate on one thing. Now if I could only keep myself off etsy!! Specific questions: I was planning on buying most of my FOs from Peakcandle...are they any good? I think I've decided on Brambleberry for soap base (I've dealt with them before when I made B&B Christmas gifts a couple years ago), I'm very intrigued by their low sweat melt and pour. I've also dealt with Camden Grey and really like their butters (bought shea, mango and cocoa butter from them in the past). Who are the best (reasonibly priced) FO supplier(s)?
  15. Hello, I'm new here....and a bit overwhelmed. My very generous husband has decided to *loan* me some $$ (at a good interest rate :rolleyes2 ) to make some bath and body products for fun and possibly to start a business down the road. I'm a stay at home mom who's kids are all in school full time now so I need something to do. I made a list of the things I want to start with (bath bombs, salt scrubs etc..) and started doing research on the computer, needless to say I've got imformation overload! There are so many recipes, suppliers and message boards my head is spinning (this is the only message board I've actually joined though, as this seems to have the nicest folks and the most information). I'll not be getting my *loan* for another couple of weeks so I have a lot more researching (and notetaking) time ahead of me. Are we allowed to ask questions about specific suppliers (I'll have to read through the rules again...I skimmed :embarasse ). Hope to see a lot of you all in the future... Becky
