  1. Hey, hate to butt in on this thread, but I'm also testing wicks in 464, and I noticed the LX30 I had in a 4" dia. jar scented with Vanilla got a huge 'shroom and started wanting to drown after about 3 hours, while an LX28 in the same size jar with Lavender was doing fine at the same point. I've bought Beanpods that have done the same thing, but I don't want mine to! I didn't realize different fo's made that much difference, but of course, if they didn't, this would be all too easy, wouldn't it.
  2. I'm trying to figure out where to buy labels for my container candles...I'm using 3" and 4" cubes, and want either a clear or frosted label that will wrap maybe 3/4 of the way around each jar, and be safe with the heat created. My bigger question is what software have any of you used to create your logos? I have an idea in my head (that's a scary place), but am wondering how to get it into reality! (A simple black outline of the logo--Alfred Hitchcock-like, if any of you remember that TV show--with some verbage, blah blah. No solid background, so the candle shows through, if that makes sense. I'm not using any dyes--just natural color and will have the fragrance names in various colors on the label. I think.) Any experiences would be appreciated! Terri
  3. Well, that does make more sense, I guess. I've just been pouring from a pyrex meas. cup, but I probably should get a couple of pour pots instead. I don't use any dye in my candles, so maybe it wouldn't be a big deal to get the fragrance in there quickly--is it pretty easy to stir in the pour pot? I usually stir for a good 2 minutes after adding. At least I won't be wearing out the bottom of the presto pot with all the stirring if I do it your way!
  4. I'm wondering what methods you guys use to make sure no fragrance lingers in the presto pots. I add fo at about 185 and am afraid if I pour the wax then add fo, it will be too cool. I wipe it out with lots of paper towels, then leave the heat on for a few minutes to help burn away any leftover scent, but I'm sure there's a better way. Anyone?
  5. This is mostly directed to Tootie, since it looks like you use (or have used) CD wicks in 464. (Anyone else using CD's with 464...would love your input too!) I've used the CD's in C3 and love the way they burn, but I wasn't sure they would do as well with the 464. My impression was that you were happy with them? My containers are between 3"'4" in diameter--probably won't go much bigger than that. Thanks for your opinion!
  6. The C3 I got from Cajun Candles just a month or so ago has the bubbles too, which would look great if were a bath product...although it does burn well with the CD wick. Anyway, I'm not taking a chance on more bubbly candles , but I can't decide between GB415, 464 or KY125. But that's for another thread. I have to make a decision! On the cube jar though--they are really nice looking. I have a couple of the 3x3 cubes and when I had one set out on the desk beside me my DH was tempted to tip some Jack Daniels in it....I guess it does have that cocktail look! I found some square jars w/plastic lids on Genwax site (I didn't look far enough down the first time), but they aren't as thick looking as the Libbey jars. I did find a co. who will do boxes, cardboard wraps, etc., so I may see what they have to offer. I do not want to spend too much money up front, but I do want a high-end looking candle. Still going to try the frosted glass and see how it works. Once I get the wax I want to try. Sometimes it sucks to be a Libra.
  7. I just bought a couple of those from the Dollar Store today! Same brand, everything. It's just the lid thing that's stumping me. I saw some brands of candles that had clear plastic lids with little holes in the top that would just fit over the edge of the container....I just need to figure out where to find something like that. I feel so stupid...this can't be that difficult! I thought about the cardboard insert too, but seems like if the wick wasn't just so, it wouldn't fit right?
  8. KK, I looked at Genwax and found some great square containers, but couldn't see where they had lids. Do you know where I can find them? I'm about to give up on the square and go with a traditional round jar....sigh... Thanks~
  9. I've done that with soy candles. I first heard it from a shopowner in Gatlinburg who was selling & burning soy candles...he assured me it was fine to go ahead and dip my fingers in the melted wax and rub in into my hands. Sure enough, it felt great? I don't think it would be advisable to pour it all over your body, but I think it's just a cute selling point that people can put in on their hands or elbows.
  10. Thanks~~that's great to know. I like the idea of a square jar without a label on it, so I'll probably try to do a label on the lids and maybe put the co. name on the warning label. Now to make a decision on the wax to replace C3.... I talked to a guy at Cargill who told me it was being "phased out", so I'd rather not try to start making my actual "to sell" candles with it if it's going to be a problem to get in the future. This is not a business venture for the impatient! :smiley2:
  11. Hmm. Maybe I'd better get my technique down before I use the frosted ones? I'm very much a newbie and haven't even nailed down my wax/wick combo, let alone the container I'm going with! Of course, even if your label tells people to trim the wick, etc., you know they probably won't....
  12. Hi! I would love to try some candles in cube/square containers, but I'm wondering if they would have problems with the wax getting stuck in the corners. Also, most of the containers I like don't come with lids....I know that will limit stacking them, but would it affect the fragrance to have them "topless"? Is anyone using square containers? (I'm just finishing a batch of C3 and am going to try either the KY125 or their pure soy blend.) Thanks for any info!
  13. Hello! I was also getting ready to order some frosted glass (of some type, not sure yet) for my candles, but then I read a couple of places that they get really dark & sooty and it's hard to remove. Have any of you experienced that? I'd like to have a nice-looking container that people will be able to use after the candle is gone. Thanks~~
