I was also wondering if I double wick, normally should the melt pool change. So instead of a single wick taking 4 hours to reach the diameter, a double wick should take 2?

On the advice of some others on here I did a 50/50 blend of CBAdvance and IGI4630. It is a large jar, about 3" wide at mouth, 4" rest of the jar. I used 1 oz pp of Fragrance. I used 1tsp vybar pp. and about 3 drops of liquid dye. 2 red one blue. It is Lavender Fields from JBN. And used 2 CD10 wicks spaced about and inch apart from one another.

I don't know if this would change the melt depth or not but this is a double wicked 4" jar? I double wicked it with CD10.

I have done a lot of research on here and have read that your tests should result in a an inch per hour for melt pool and about a 1/2" melted wax depth. Is it ok that if I achieve the diameter of the melt pool in the required time but the melted wax depth is more than 1/2"? There is no smoking and great scent throw, no mushrooming (I was surprised to see none) Another chandler I PM'd told me not to ruin a good thing and if the jar was not extremely HOT, (it's lukewarm) , and there are no other ugly characteristics that I shouldn't worry about it or change it. After 2 hours the depth is more like an inch. But it's not hot.... at all. It just worries me. On another scent the depth of wax stayed at 1/2" after 4 hours.

I have been using soy for about 2 months now and have already gotten fed up with marks on the candles (inside the jar). Frost marks I guess they are called or fingernails. Then I found a chandlers blog and in it he/she said they started pouring their candles at slushy stage into a luke warm jar and has had excellent results since. Is this true? How many here use this method of pouring?

I don't see a problem with it. I can see why some might have one but I think most people are smart and reasonable enough to know "her" candles don't spark or she wouldn't be selling them. I guess if you are only buying a candle from a company because of their name then you would not buy from her but if the candles sell under this name (I think in other posts she says they do) then it shouldn't matter.

So pick a task, do it then make a candle.

When you do your re pours on your pillars do you remove the pillar from the mold, or do you pour while still in the mold? The reason I ask is someone told me it is much easier to stay below the original pour line if the candle is out of the mold, so you can watch the wax level. I have tried this a couple times. First time I pour too close to the edge and it melted and spilled down the side, second time I did pretty well. Stayed about 1/8 of an inch from the outer edge.

Oh No. Here we go again! Weren't you two disagreeing on candles when I first came here? I think so. I agree Ring of Fire that it seems you seek CandleLytes threads and ridicule them because the product is not like your own. I think everyone is different and as long as they are happy with their work and the customer is happy that's all that matters. You are basically accusing this person of not knowing what she is doing and from what I can tell, her candles look great.

But doesn't the paraffin take away the "cleaniness" of the soy? That's my worry.

Why do you use it? I know why people use soy and I know why people use paraffin but aren't you defeating benefits of both waxes if you blend them?

I know I am no where near opening a business or selling my candles but I was just wondering how many of you own a candle business.

Do you guys not like the original poster or something? This is the third post I have seen from her that has sarcastic replies. I hope I don't get that annoying. Please let me know if I do.

OK So I chose my wax. I am going to start out with IGI1343 and Apple Jack from Bittercreek. I am not asking for any exacts, but in general, what wick do you use with this wax. LX's, CD's, Zinc, or cotton?

What is the point of chunk candles? Just for the look or do they burn different?

Those are really cool! I don't see a problem with them at all and it actually looks like that is the kind of dough that is like triple chunk cookies or something. Do you sell a lot of those.

and new to candle making. I haven't even started making candles yet. Just kind of researching for now. I recently was in a car accident and can not work for 6 months so I needed to find a hobby. I bought a homemade candle from a site and thought, I can do this. Now I'm starting to wonder if I can. Not sure where to start. But glad to meet you all.
