  2. Stearin question Hello to all, I have just purchased that palm R-2778 and R-2779 wax. I am going to be making container candles. My question is I remember seeing something on this site which someone added a palm stearin. I currently have stearin acid are they the same or should I say while i will be at the testing stage can I substitute it until I find and order a palm stearin:undecided

  8. i have been attempting candle making off an on for the past couple of years and I am stumpted about this. i am making pillars. The wax is 1343A, mold is 3 x3.5, 24 ply flt wick, 1/8 of uv, 1/2 tbs of vybar and 1 tbs to each color. I heated the wax to 190 then added the additived, the mold was warmed for the first color. I decreased the temp to 180 for the first pour and waited about 45 minutes. The mold was set in beans no water bath. After1 hour I poked relief holes by the wick waited until it solided up then poured the second color, poke relief holes after about an hour then filled. when i looked the next day i had a big sink hole on one side of the wick about 2 inches in width and about 2 inches in depth. I am wonder if adding more stearic will stop this sink hole. At first I thought it was because i did not warm the mold the first time so i melted it down and tryed again and the same thing happened. Any suggestions. I want the third time to be a charm and not get discouraged so I am waiting for a response before I continue. I enjoy making candles and would like to produce candles that can one day be sold so I must practice

  11. should the temp be taken from the boiling water or the pot which has the wax in it?. The reason I pose this question is because I get 2 different temp. the difference is 10 degrees and it causes a problem when it is time to pour
  12. thank you Pam for replying now i can melt down and redo
  13. Wax-1274 18oz, Mold-2 3/4 x 6 Pillar, color gold, FO Vanilla hazelnut 1oz, additives: 1 tbs of stearic and 1/8 tsp of uv, wick was 24 ply FLT. I was looking for the moltted look and that was accomplished, but the candles sweats or bleeds a lot as it sits. I was wondering if I add 2 additional TBS of stearic will that help with the sweating?
  14. I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to everyone. I was on the candlemakers site since 2005 but school took priority and now that I have graduated I can resume making candles and I have missed this form of relaxation. From time to time I see candles that I have made on this site and that makes me feel good. My name on the other site was blueskys. Well I just wanted to introduce myself and say I will be getting tips from you all very soon since I have a few questions about some candles that I made. Chat with you soon Preciouscandles
