  1. I did something like this once and have found that the clear base sinks and the white floats to the top. I swirled it as it was cooling and came out with an interesting effect. Based on that though, I would think that the white was poured first.

  2. I don't think your a trouble maker. If you're going to buy a product, you have the right to know what's in it before you eat it, apply it to your skin, etc...

I simply cannot understand why someone would hold out on giving you that type of information. Just giving someone a list of ingredients isn't going to give away your recipe.

Even if it isn't information that is *REQUIRED* to leave on a website or exchange, it's not an unreasonable request.

I wouldn't do business with them and if they're breaking any type of law, I'd turn them in faster then you can blink.

  3. I hadn't thought of doing a dual color that sounds like it'll be REALLY interesting. Ok, it's now been moved to the top of my list of things to try. Thanks for the idea!!!

I usually spray my wick pins because I just have the WORST luck in unmolding pillars. I think with this candle it would've been even more beneficial because the wax is so thin in places and almost lace like.

  4. Did you add anything to it? If so, what and how much?

To harden the bar, you might try some steric acid, but that won't tell us how/why it got so soft in the first place.

  5. I bought some from Wal-Mart that work pretty good, I have to stuff them in a little bit, but it looks nice. They were about .50 a piece.

Thanks for the heads up about Candles & Supplies, they're my usual supplier as I live close enough to pick stuff up and likely would've tried theirs.

  6. I've had a similar problem once and was told that I had received the wrong "grade" of oils. The supplier resent my order and i'm still testing the new stuff but it seems to be better. I would think if it's just those scents that perhaps you want to contact the places you bought from and make sure there aren't any oppsies!

  7. I've tried doing this a few times. It doesn't always work very well.

I had someone tell me "I want Pomegranate! If you get it, I'll buy from you and no one else." As someone I was more then acquaintances with, I said "Ok, I'll get you Pomegranate!" Well, don't you know, I bought it, she HATED it and I was stuck with it! Luckly, I didn't buy very much, but nonetheless.

It's impossible to please everyone. Look at a scent like vanilla. Everyone has their own idea as to what a "good" vanilla is and that could encompass dozens of different types.

I agree though with the idea of taking notes and seeing if there are any trends. If lots of people request "warm apple pie" let's say, then maybe it's something you should add.

If someone REALLY wants that custom order and they're willing to wait for it, then maybe it's worth it.

  8. Hi,

Does anyone know what can be used as colorants besides buying the colors for made for soap?

    Hugs

    Michele

Oxides, I'm still mastering these, but got the technique down pretty well without killing any soap.

There foodies that you can use and quite a variety at that.

Food coloring, though the colors don't always hold up the best.

There's herbals/"organics" (and I use that to mean natural stuff and not necessarily organic in the sense of the more expensive produce you buy at the store).
