  1. I have to say. I ordered this based on the reviews. When it arrived it was as thick as motor oil which really put me off. I thought for sure it would be a wick clogger. I made it up at 1 oz per lb in soy / veg blend wax and burned it the next day. Didn't really thrill me. Burned it today at the store - one week later and didn't really smell it all that much ( perhaps since I was making candles at the time too) I brought a cande home and lit it 20 minutes ago and all I have to say is what a pleasant surprise. It smells really nice. fills the larger room in my house. I don't know if I have trouble smelling it at the store because of all the other fragrances or because it was that extra few days cure but it is nice. Anyone else shocked by the thickness of this oil?
  2. Has anyone had this scenario? I purchased Harvest from Millcreek and it performs great and throws wonderful in soy. No problems The Cinnamon Stick even at an 1oz per lb has the wick getting wimpy as the candle burns down. It starts out good then starts to get weaker. I would think the Cinnamon and Harvest wouldn't be that much different from each other? I guess I am thinking wrong!
  3. Repoured the Basil Citrus , Cabernet Grape and Amish Harvest and test burned them again at 1 oz per lb. The Basil and Amish are performing great. Grape is still fizzling with a weak melt pool and flame? It is upsetting since , I like the fragrance. will make one more attempt at .75 oz and then may have to chalk it up to non - compatable.
  4. I currently use C1 Naturewax and have done so for several years with good success. It has on the tech sheet that it is a 6% f/0 load and some fragrances it cand handle more. Usually 1 oz to 1.25 max is what I need. The thought is. I read today that Golden Brands 464 claims to have a 12% fragrance load ratio? Doesn't it boil down to in the end what the wick can handle? Regardles if it is 6% to 12% it is the nature of the fragrance oil and the way a wick can perform in it. So.........I am making the assumption that it doesn't do anyone anygood unless the wick can handle that high of a ratio in fragrance oil. Thus.........making Eco, Golden and Nature all in some respect similar. Performance and astheic appeal. Now that is a different story. Just a random thought.
  5. This would explain a clogged wick (if that is what the problem is) I am going to test them tonight. For good measure I pulled another candle that I just made from the same batch of wax using Cranberry Marmalade at just 1.2 oz per lb and it is burning fine.
  6. Well, I've been making candles for 5 years now. Have done a lot of testing. You get into a rut though and just take for granted sometimes that all fragrances are created equal. They are evidently not. I just recently started purchasing from Peak. They have wonderful fragrances and smell great out of the bottle. I started off with the Clove and at a ratio slightly less that I usually use as I know Clove is harder to wick and it worked fine. I recently bought more Amish Quilt Basil Citrus Cabernet Grape All of them so far have tested with poor melt pool and a I was dumfounded. I do approx 1.25 oz per .lb or a little under. I am thinking that these fragrances are all a little heavier. So.....I am making up pots of 2 lbs with just 1 oz per lb and trying that. Hopefully it will cure the problem. Have any of you found that Peak's fragrances are more highly concentrated than the majority of others? I use AH, Millcreek, CS, CNS and BC fragrances all consistently close to 1.25 oz per lb with the exception of some heavier. WSP I find 1 oz is the norm. I'll post my results after burning tonight!
  7. I purchased this fragrance at the request of a customer wanting a "grape" candle. I made up a pot using the f/o at 1.25oz per lb in C1 soy. I test burned it last night and it is a whimpy flame and is not reaching the glass on a normal container I use regularly with all my fragrances. Is this one with anyone's experience that needs less fragrance oil in ratio? Thanks!
  8. Ok just tested these. The Banana Walnut is the nicest smelling banana type candle fragrance I have ever had. It is just really nice. Not too sweet. The Pumpkin Pie does not have strong cold throw at all so far after a week. I took one and burned it and didn't smell much of anything the first hour but then all of the sudden it filled the room very nicely. Smells very nice. Perhaps this requires a longer cure time? Maybe someone whom has worked with it could tell us! These were tested in soy.
  9. Fillmore container carries a matte silver lid that fits those. I have purchased the ones from Fairway and they do fit.
  10. I just made the WSP version of this and it is really nice. I used it in Soy and it throws well - no fuel smell and smells dead on to me like the BBW version.
  11. Has anyone found this fragrance? I do a lot of earthy fragrances and saw a candle somewhere that was Rosemary Lime. It sounds wonderful. Thanks for any input!
  12. I agree, the cd wicks perform very well for me. I do not use 100 percent soy but it is 95 percent - the rest botanical / plant. In that size jar I use a cd 14 or cd 16. Just a note. Not all waxes are created equall and I only know since I have tried a few. In the beginning I had a wax that was so bad to wick that I almost gave up. If you continue having problems with the wick, I would try a different wax as well. Good Luck.
  13. I don't neccessarily detect a fuel smell but I believe it is more the orange coming through. I usually am very sensitive to the "fuel" smell and anything with orange is usually the culprit, sometimes mint too. I am going to burn it again this evening to test again. I tested the sugar cookie clove mix today and it smelled great too.
  14. Hello, I just purchased the Cranberry Marmalade and am test burning this morning. It smells completely different burning. Out of the bottle and cold it smells like a spiced cranberry, when burning I smell more cranberry and orange. Does anyone else smell the same? By the way it is throwing wonderful after only curing overnight. Thanks
  15. I was wondering if anyone has successfully mixed sugar cookie and clove f/o and had good throw in soy? I am purchasing a blend of these two from Candles and Supplies to try. Clove always seems tricky with soy and I am hoping it is nice. Thank you!:tiptoe:
  16. Hello, After horrible experiences testing soy in 2004, I began using the original Phytowax C1 blend. I continue to use it to this day and have had little to no trouble with it. I have been told that the Cargill Naturewax C1 is made right along with the Phytowax and they are virtually the same wax. I find wicking pure 100 percent soy (after testing it last year) too difficult. It requires a lot of double wicking and it just made sense to stick with what was working. I think if you are looking for a blend to try, it is wonderful. Hope this helps! Mel
